Job description

We are partnering with a global, publicly traded REIT that is looking to add a Vice President of Tax to serve as the tax structuring lead for the organization. The Vice President of Tax will partner closely with investments, legal, capital markets, and finance teams to support acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and capital deployment initiatives across an international real estate portfolio. The Vice President of Tax will be based in the firm’s New York City office, working alongside a highly collaborative, cross-border global tax team.

Reporting to the SVP of Global Tax, the Vice President of Tax will sit in a front-end, deal-oriented role with ownership of transactions from inception through close. The ideal candidate for the Vice President of Tax will have hands-on experience structuring transactions from the ground up and ensuring tax considerations are embedded into investment decisions. The Vice President of Tax will lead technical tax research, oversee transaction modeling and analysis, and help build scalable processes to support a highly active transaction pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership over transaction tax planning and execution across the real estate portfolio
  • Serve as the tax lead on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, restructurings, and capital markets transactions
  • Partner cross-functionally with Investments, Legal, Capital Markets, Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, and Portfolio Management throughout the full transaction lifecycle
  • Advise on tax structuring alternatives and implications to support investment decision-making
  • Review and oversee complex financial models, including waterfalls, income allocations, and tax forecasting models
  • Develop and implement scalable tax policies, controls, and best practices to support transaction growth and consistency
  • Manage and coordinate third-party advisors, including accounting firms, law firms, and other tax specialists
  • Provide technical tax research and documentation to support filings, audits, and internal analyses
  • Oversee legal entity structuring, consolidation considerations, and system alignment related to transactions
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA or JD required
  • 8–10+ years of relevant experience, including public accounting and transaction-focused tax work
  • Strong understanding of U.S. federal income tax and partnership taxation
  • Experience supporting complex real estate transactions and joint ventures
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills and comfort advising senior leadership
  • Real estate, REIT, or private equity environment
  • Experience working closely with investment teams on structuring decisions
  • Prior people leadership or mentorship experience
