Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Tax Associate to join a prestigious and growing Tax practice in Dallas. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with a strong interest in real estate taxation and experience advising on sophisticated real estate transactions, including REIT-related matters.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, excellent analytical and writing skills, and a desire to work on complex and innovative tax issues affecting real estate investors, developers, funds, and institutional clients.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on the tax aspects of commercial real estate transactions
  • Counsel clients on REIT formation, operation, and compliance matters
  • Support acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, and development transactions
  • Analyze tax issues arising in real estate investment structures
  • Conduct tax research and prepare sophisticated tax analyses and memoranda
  • Draft and review transaction documents with tax-related provisions
  • Collaborate with attorneys across real estate, private equity, finance, and corporate practices
  • Develop creative solutions to complex and novel tax issues affecting real estate transactions
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Law school class years 2022 and above
  • Strong understanding of tax law and tax research principles
  • Experience with, or demonstrated interest in:
    • Commercial real estate transactions
    • Real estate investment structures
    • REITs
    • Real estate taxation
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills
  • Outstanding writing and oral communication abilities
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically about complex tax issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $260,000 – $420,000
