Job description

This is a full-time salaried, non- exempt field position. This position requires early mornings (5:30/6:30am) and evening hours 5:30pm/6:30pm as days are spent in the clubs in your region. As a Regional Manger you are expected to be in the clubs one weekend per month.
OVERVIEW:
The Regional Group Exercise Manager is a tactical field-based position that directly manages the group exercise program, including cycling and Club360 programming, through assigned Club4 facilities up to a total of nine (9) Club locations. As subject matter expert in Group Exercise programming as well as holding certifications in Les Mills or other group exercise programming sponsored by Club4Fitness, the Regional Group Exercise Manager will present him/herself as an organizational role model for all activities related to group exercise and spin as well as provide regular feedback to Group Exercise Managers and Instructors on quality of instruction. This leadership position will execute to enhance the member experience and create a value in the Group Exercise department(s) in all Club4Fitness facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and or ability required.
Team Development: (Building a strong instructor team)
  • Responsible for providing leadership to group exercise, including spin, instructors within an assigned region
  • Interviewing, hiring, scheduling, and performance management of group exercise managers for all assigned Club locations
  • Assists any new Group Exercise Manager in effectively staffing his/her Club location so as to build the group exercise classes with best-in-class instructors and scheduling an 80%/20% of live instruction vs. virtual class instruction schedule
  • Provides coaching, mentorship & supervision, as well as support to all Group Exercise Managers abd Instructors within the assigned region in an effort to facilitate the successful development of group exercise within the region and skills development among group exercise instructors
  • Partners with Fitness Administrative Assistant to ensure all instructor certifications are current and that all instructors maintain required CPR certification
  • Attend quarterly Training and Development workshops for Group Exercise Managers and Instructors under Group Exercise Director's supervision
  • Evaluate classes and instructors with internal/external audits annually and report back to the Group Exercise Director

Field and Club Responsibilities:
  • Promotes an engaging and welcoming environment to all employees, members and visitors
  • Ensures that Group Exercise Managers are trained on how to submit accurate and timely payroll
  • Work closely with HR and Club management in regard to hiring new and sending timely notification of separated/terminated group exercise employees
  • Conduct studio evaluations at each assigned Club location ensuring that all studios are clean and organized and all Group Exercise equipment is properly maintained
  • Partner with assigned Group Exercise Managers as well as Club General Managers to recommend and implement schedule changes, as needed to remain competitive within the market as well as to ensure constant community/member engagement
  • Participates in Les Mills launches and on-going performance of new procedures, programs, training and certifications within the arena of Group Exercise, including Spin/indoor cycling activities
  • Ensure all Group X deliverables (copies of schedule, information sheet on class formats, instructors contact lists) are copied and readily available in club
  • Responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of all Group Exercise and Indoor Cycling Program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within Club4Fitness based on best practice industry standards
  • Ten (10) hours per week administrative time to be fulfilled in a Club4Fitness facility
  • Teaches a minimum of 2 classes per week at assigned home club on Club Group X schedule; 1 class per week at all other clubs assigned as within the 'region'
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Group Exercise classes are closed out daily
  • Provide Group Exercise Instructors with timely performance feedback and recognition
  • Execute the substitution process to ensure that all classes run to company standards
  • Work with all Club instructors and General Managers to develop schedules and communicate all changes on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Maintain instructor communication list(s) and Microsoft Teams channels
  • Enforce and update policies & procedures with the Group Exercise staff when onboarding, when behavioral activities require refresher training, and as of the time of any policy/procedural changes within the Club4Fitness organization
  • Attend group exercise meetings as assigned, to include monthly meetings with Club Management personnel, Regional and/or Group Exercise Managers' meetings, as well as any other leadership meetings as assigned by the Group Exercise Director
  • Works directly with the Group Exercise Manager and Club General Manager to address more complex customer service and/or equipment issues (as related to the group exercise department) by proactively addressing any member concerns or issues
  • Develops strong lines of communication with GMs and Regional Managers of all Clubs within the assigned region
  • Communicates with marketing and the admin team to ensure timely updates of group exercise schedules on all social sites (website, app, etc.) within the assigned region
  • Other Duties as assigned by Group Exercise Director or Managing Partner

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • As a Group Exercise Leader, the Group Exercise Director is expected to teach some classes, however, all teaching must occur within the scope of Club4Fitness rules and may only occur with specific Club4Fitness authorization.
  • The position routinely deals with club employees, members and vendors, as a liaison for both Group Exercise activities and also Club4 activities.
  • Strong track record of successfully executing on directives and meeting key strategic initiatives as designed and/or approved by assigned Regional Manager as well as Managing Partner
  • Ability to travel to all Club4 facilities designated as within the Group Exercise Director's scope of supervision, assisting Club Expansion personnel and GMs to prepare for new Club openings, as well as to lead activities at major events such as Grand Openings, Exercise Programming Launches, etc., as well as to perform above described performance evaluation activities and audit classroom maintenance/cleanliness

2) Minimum certifications/education/experience level:
  • Three (3) years Supervisor or Manager experience. Preferably in the fitness or dance industry, or in management of a professional performance organization.
  • Must hold a current national group exercise certification & have taught for at least 5 years
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; 2- or 4-yr degree or four years of supervisory experience is preferred
  • Must be CPR/AED certified
  • Must hold at least two of the following certifications:
    • Group Fitness Instructor certification
    • Les Mills Certified
    • Indoor cycling certification

  • Noise level is generally low but may be louder and more intense in gym facilities
  • Overnight travel may be required in order to attend meetings as described above
  • Hours are generally traditional business hours but may, at times, extend to early mornings and late evening hours to accommodate member class requests, events, openings, launches of new programming, and other matters involving social media.
