Job description

Hannaford Supermarkets started out as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine way back in 1883, and is still connected to those early roots as a local market. Hannaford actively seeks out farmers and producers to join our Local program which celebrates not only local foods, but the preservation of farmland, local traditions and local jobs. The connection we have to the source of our fresh foods is core to the way we do business, becoming the first major supermarket in the United States to document that all its seafood products were sustainably harvested.
Reports To: Regional Asset Protection Manager
Primary Purpose: Preventing and deterring theft and limiting the loss of company assets in the stores through best-in-class service, healthy business partnerships, profit analysis, and investigations.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and complete Asset Protection Department responsibilities including but not limited to internal theft investigations, external theft investigations, and physical security.
  • Detect, apprehend, or deter shoplifters following established company guidelines and legal statutes of the states we operate in.
  • Prepare, complete, and maintain accurate and detailed case reports documenting incidents.
  • Ensure that all physical security equipment is functional including cores, locks, CCTV, and alarm systems.
  • Responsible for conducting quarterly store assessments with appropriate follow up with store leadership.
  • Responsible for monthly pharmacy assessments with appropriate follow up to any known issues regarding pharmacy cameras and pharmacy camera retention.
  • Maintain working relationships with law enforcement, court systems, asset protection team, store leadership, and retail business partners.
  • Assist the Regional Asset Protection Manager/ Lead in training new Asset Protection Associates.
  • Assist management in the detection and handling of trespassed individuals and situations involving loitering, soliciting, etc.
  • Create and submit closed circuit tv maintenance requests when needed.
  • Make court appearances when necessary as a result of prosecution.
  • Develop knowledge of criminal justice systems and the laws pertaining to security-related practices.
  • Utilize closed circuit tv and other asset protection technologies and programs.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information and investigations.
  • Provide training and support to retail partners in the areas of workplace violence, emergency preparedness, suspected theft, fraud, and shrink reduction.
  • Assist management in the detection and handling of trespassed individuals and situations involving loitering, soliciting, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication and maintain composure in varying situations.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Have the ability to travel as required.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Excellent observational skills and the ability to recall and describe detailed facts.
  • Self-Starter, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • NEW YORK STATE: Must have, and maintain throughout employment, a valid New York State Security License or be able to obtain one within 90 days of hire, including a successfully passing a background check. Must be able to provide documentation as needed to verify current status of License at any time.
Schedule Requirements:
  • Full-time Asset Protection Coordinators will work a 40 hour work week.
  • Work a flexible schedule that will include mornings, nights, weekends, possible overnights, and holidays.
  • Ability to be flexible towards last-minute schedule changes as dictated by store needs and special requests of Regional Asset Protection Manager.
  • Needs to adhere to established retail guidelines as it pertains to breaks, meals, time off, and vacation requests. The Regional Asset Protection Manager has the right to modify or complete your schedule at any time.
