What are some common challenges faced by social media managers when creating engaging Reels content?

Social media managers often find that consistently producing creative and high-quality Reels can be challenging due to the fast-paced trends and the need to capture audience attention within just a few seconds. Balancing originality with brand messaging, staying updated on platform algorithm changes, and analyzing performance metrics are also key hurdles. Collaboration with content creators, graphic designers, and marketing teams is essential to ensure each Reel aligns with broader campaign goals and maintains a cohesive brand voice.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Social Media Reels Content Creator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Reels Content Creator, you need creativity, video editing skills, and a deep understanding of current trends, often supported by experience with content creation or digital marketing. Familiarity with editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, or mobile apps, as well as a strong grasp of platform algorithms and analytics, is essential. Storytelling, adaptability, and strong communication skills help make content engaging and foster audience connection. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality, shareable content that drives engagement and growth on social media platforms.

What are Reels and what does a Reels creator do?

Reels are short, engaging videos on platforms like Instagram and Facebook that allow users to create, edit, and share creative content, often set to music or audio. A Reels creator is someone who specializes in producing these videos, often focusing on trends, storytelling, or brand promotion to engage audiences and grow their following. Reels creators use editing tools, effects, and analytics to optimize their content and reach. They may work independently or partner with brands to create sponsored content. The role involves staying up-to-date with trends, understanding social media algorithms, and consistently producing high-quality, entertaining videos.

What is a Reels job?

A Reels job typically involves creating, editing, and managing short-form video content for platforms like Instagram and Facebook. This role may require expertise in video production, storytelling, and social media trends to maximize engagement. Responsibilities can include filming, editing, adding effects, and optimizing content for reach and performance. Professionals in this role often work closely with marketing teams or influencers to create compelling visual stories.

What is the difference between Reels vs Video Editor?

AspectReels
Required credentialsBasic video editing skills, social media knowledge
Work environmentSocial media platforms, content creation settings
Employer and industry usageMarketing agencies, content creators, brands
Common search intentCreating short, engaging videos for social media

Reels are short-form videos primarily created for social media platforms like Instagram. Video Editors, on the other hand, work on a broader range of video projects, including films, commercials, and online content. While Reels focus on quick, engaging content optimized for social media, Video Editors handle more complex editing tasks across various media types. Both roles require editing skills, but Reels specialists focus on social media trends and platform-specific features.

Great short-form content isn't luck. It's timing, taste and judgment. It's knowing what the platform is about to care about, not what it cared about yesterday. It's understanding how a trend travels, what makes it stick and when it's already over. It's writing a brief that makes the idea obvious before a single frame is shot. That's this role.
The TikTok / Instagram Reels Strategist owns the thinking behind TPG's short-form presence. You're deciding what gets made, why it matters and how it ladders up to both editorial and business goals. You track the algorithm like it's a beat. You build a calendar that's proactive, not reactive. You turn performance into direction, not just reporting. And you have strong instincts to know when to follow the signal, and when to ignore it.
What You'll Do:
  • The strategy behind TPG's TikTok and Reels presence: what we make, why we make it and how it evolves
  • Collaboration with creators and on-camera talent - you write the brief and set the strategic direction; they execute
  • A forward-looking content calendar that connects platform moments, trends and TPG's editorial priorities
  • Clear, usable briefs that translate strategy into something a creator can execute without guesswork
  • Ongoing read of the algorithm: what's being rewarded, what's losing steam and what that means for us
  • Performance analysis that goes beyond surface metrics to actual decisions: what to scale, what to fix, what to stop
  • A test-and-learn pipeline: formats, hooks, structures; with real takeaways
  • Tight integration with editorial: spotting what in our pipeline should become short-form, and how to make it platform-native
  • Competitive awareness: what others in the space are doing and where there's room for TPG to stand apart
  • A clear POV on social SEO: how our content shows up in search, not just in-feed

What We're Looking For:
  • 3+ years working in social strategy, with real ownership over TikTok and/or Reels for a brand or publisher
  • A track record of turning trends and algorithm signals into actual content decisions that perform
  • Comfort with data, not just pulling metrics, but translating them into a clear point of view
  • Experience running a content calendar in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong writing. Your briefs are sharp, your thinking is clear and your recommendations hold up
  • Genuine familiarity with points, miles, and travel rewards culture
  • Understanding of how social ties to audience growth and revenue, not just engagement
  • Experience working within compliance or editorial guidelines for financial or regulated content

Nice to Haves:
  • Editing skills (CapCut, Premiere or similar). You don't need to be the creator, but you can step in when needed
  • Experience working in a strategist + creator model
  • Background in travel, personal finance, affiliate, or performance-driven content

Success in This Role Looks Like
Success in this role looks like a short-form presence that feels intentional, not reactive. The content consistently shows up in the right moments: early to trends, aligned with platform behavior and clearly connected to TPG's editorial priorities. There's a strong, recognizable point of view across TikTok and Reels, with formats and storytelling approaches that are distinctly "ours," not interchangeable with competitors. You can point to what's working, why it's working and how that insight is shaping what comes next.
Just as important, success shows up in how decisions get made. The content calendar is proactive and grounded in strategy, briefs are clear enough to unlock better creative and performance reporting leads to real changes: scaling what resonates, refining what's close and cutting what doesn't. Over time, this role builds something the algorithm can't replicate: a recognizable presence that earns attention because it's genuinely useful, not just timely.
Compensation:
This range reflects total cash compensation, which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus, depending on the role. Where eligible, equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.
  • Total Cash Compensation Range: $68,000 - $105,000 per year

*New York City Total Cash Compensation Range: $68,000 - $105,000 per year
Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision)
  • Life Insurance
  • Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Holiday Pay
  • 401(k) with match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential. That's why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy. Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.
