The Position

The Recreation Leader, under general direction, must have knowledge of theories, rules, and regulations of sports, games, arts and crafts and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, teens and/or adults, and the general public.
Examples of Essential Job Duties
1. Assist in the organization and delivery of various recreation programs, sports leagues or services.
2. Assist with organization of special events, sports activities, arts and crafts, games, and play activities for youth and/or adults.
3. Ensure the safety of participants through the proper use of equipment and the enforcement of rules, regulations and lifting techniques.
4. Assist in the supervision of sports leagues, playgrounds, community centers, meeting rooms, park areas, and ensure the safety of participants through the proper use of equipment and the enforcement of rules and regulations.
5. Set up/ take down tables, chairs, and equipment for classes, programs, sports activities, and special events.
6. Complete written reports including facility checks, attendance reports, and incident and accident reports.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
Education: Graduation from High School or completion of GED equivalent within 60 days of application.
Experience: One (1) year paid experience demonstrating customer service and responsibility preferably in the field of recreation or related service OR Two (2) years of unpaid volunteer service dealing with the public or customer service at the time of application.
Licenses and/or Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Successful completion of certified AED, CPR and First Aid Safety Course is required after appointment.
Special Requirements: Ability to travel to different sites and locations. Ability to lift 40 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds. May have to sit in one location for up to two hours at a time. Must be able to work assigned schedules that include weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays.
