What does a real estate investment intern do?

A Real Estate Investment Intern supports the investment team by conducting market research, analyzing property data, and assisting in the due diligence process for potential real estate acquisitions. Their responsibilities may include preparing financial models, gathering and organizing property information, and helping with investment presentations. This role provides hands-on experience in real estate finance, market analysis, and investment strategies, making it ideal for students or recent graduates interested in the real estate industry.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a real estate investment intern expect during their internship?

As a Real Estate Investment Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as conducting market research, analyzing financial models, assisting with due diligence, and supporting the evaluation of potential investment opportunities. Interns often collaborate closely with analysts, associates, and senior team members to prepare presentations and reports for investment committees. This hands-on experience provides valuable exposure to deal structuring, property valuation, and the overall investment process, offering a strong foundation for future roles in real estate finance or acquisitions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real estate investment intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Real Estate Investment Intern, you need a solid understanding of financial analysis, market research, and basic real estate principles, often supported by coursework in finance, business, or real estate. Familiarity with Excel, property valuation tools, and real estate databases such as CoStar or MLS is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help interns stand out when collaborating on deals and presenting findings. These skills are crucial for accurately evaluating investment opportunities and contributing to informed, strategic decision-making within real estate teams.
