How much do range manager jobs pay per hour?
What is a range manager?
A range manager is responsible for overseeing large tracts of land called rangelands. Range managers are also sometimes referred to as range conservationists or range scientists. As part of your job duties as a range manager, you work with local farmers and landowners with stakes on or adjacent to these rangelands. Your goal is to ensure productive, sustainable use of the rangelands, as well as to find ways to preserve trees, plants, wetlands, and other natural resources. You spend much of your time working outdoors, surveying rangelands, monitoring rehabilitation efforts, and ensuring appropriate land use.

What is the difference between Range Manager vs Range Technician?
| Aspect | Range Manager | Range Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires a bachelor's degree in forestry, wildlife management, or related field; certifications like Rangeland Management Certification are common | Usually requires a high school diploma or associate degree; some roles may need certifications in equipment operation or environmental monitoring |
| Work Environment | Oversees large rangeland areas, manages staff, develops management plans, and interacts with stakeholders | Performs fieldwork such as monitoring, maintenance, and data collection; works directly on rangelands |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Employed by government agencies, ranches, or environmental organizations | Employed by government agencies, contractors, or private landowners for field support |
In summary, Range Managers focus on planning, oversight, and strategic management of rangelands, requiring higher education and certifications. Range Technicians support field operations, conducting monitoring and maintenance tasks. Both roles are essential in rangeland management but differ in responsibilities and qualifications.
