We are looking for a Systems Safety Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Systems Safety Engineer at Wisk is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making which results in an appropriate level of safety. The System Safety Engineer employs qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods to determine the likelihood and severity of hazards. You will be part of the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety & Security (RAMS) engineering team that partners with Integrated Product Teams, Quality, and Certification to assess and help improve the safety, reliability, maintainability, and security of Wisk's Gen 6 product; capture operating and maintenance expectations for continued safety and reliability; and identify, communicate, and continuously evaluate product safety risk.
This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days.
Responsibilities
  • Understand safety regulatory requirements applicable to the aircraft and system development program and tailor the safety assessment process to ensure these requirements are met to the satisfaction of airworthiness authority.
  • Perform safety assessments for one or more aircraft systems in accordance with SAE ARP4761A (FHA, FTA, CCA/CMA, FMEA)
  • Define appropriate safety targets using airworthiness regulations and guidance material such as 14 CFR 2X.1309 for developmental aircraft and systems and develop safety mitigation strategies.
  • Liaise with airworthiness authority and Designated Engineering Representative to validate safety targets.
  • Verify the implementation of mitigation strategies and provide recommendations and limitations.

Requirements
  • B.S. in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience interacting with technical teams coupled with excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Understanding and experience with design safety engineering principles for safety critical systems.
  • Experience with ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, or similar standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Type: Full-time
Pay range the company expects to pay: $101,000 - $127,000 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
