Job description

Position Summary
Provides overall leadership and direction to station Radiation Protection Organization. This includes organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the conduct of the operational, technical, and administrative aspects of the Radiation Protection Program. Responsible for reinforcing safe work practices, oversight of the Radiation Protection training program, control of department budgets, and the coordination of regulatory/peer assessments and evaluations.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Organize, direct, coordinate and control the conduct of the Radiation Protection Organization during all phases of station operation.
  • Ensure the Radiation Protection Program is conducted in a safe manner, in compliance with company, industry and regulatory safety standards (including all state and federal requirements).
  • Establish performance goals, targets, objectives, key performance indicators, staffing requirements, and related activities.
  • Provide Senior Management Team input with respect to resource requirements necessary to successfully accomplish Radiation Protection targets and objectives.
  • Serve as chairperson for the Radiation Protection Training Advisory Committee.
  • Support Fleet standardization initiatives by actively participating in Fleet Radiation Protection Peer Groups. Ensure effective implementation of the Radiation Protection Excellence Plan.
  • Ensure Radiation Protection support of the station's Emergency Response Organization.
  • Review and approve all budget and authorization forms prepared by individual groups within Radiation Protection and monitor projects under his/her responsibility with respect to authorized expenditure levels.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college/university or experience commensurate with this level of education may be substituted in accordance with NRC HPPOS-217.
  • Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Must meet ANSI (American National Standard) N18.1-1971.
  • Must meet Regulatory Guide 1.8 qualification requirements for a Radiation Protection Manager (i.e., ANSI / ANS 3.1-1981, section 4.44 which specifies a minimum 7 years radiation protection experience, 2 of which should be professional level experience in a commercial nuclear power facility).
  • Effective verbal communication and writing skills that include the labor relations and negotiation abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including presentations to senior station management and external organizations.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $148,400.00 to $210,733.00 per year
