Job description

Leidos is seeking a Data Engineer to support CDC DHP data modernization, analytics, and cloud-based data management initiatives. This role provides hands-on technical expertise for development, migration, testing, validation, and sustainment of analytical workflows supporting surveillance, research, reporting, and operational activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and integration solutions.
  • Support migration and modernization of SAS-based analytics and reporting workflows.
  • Develop ETL/ELT processes and cloud-based data engineering solutions.
  • Implement automated testing, validation, and monitoring processes.
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple analytical environments.
  • Develop reusable code, technical documentation, and deployment procedures.
  • Collaborate with architects, analysts, and program stakeholders to support modernization objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, software development, or cloud-based data management.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, R, SAS, PySpark, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting CDC, HHS, or public health data systems.
  • Experience supporting SAS-to-Python, SAS-to-R, or similar modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with EDAV (Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Delta Lake, R Studio, PowerBI, Tableau), 1CDP (Palantir Foundry), Azure SQL, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting migration from SAS to other analytics solutions (e.g., R, Python, Databricks, Palantir Foundry).
  • Experience supporting dual-run validation, equivalency testing, and controlled migration approaches.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud deployment practices.
  • Preferred Certifications: Databricks Data Engineer Associate/Professional, Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203), Azure AI Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
  • Master's degree preferred.
