How much do quantum group jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 9, 2026, the average hourly pay for quantum group in the United States is $38.05, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $53.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a quantum group?

A Quantum Group is a mathematical concept that generalizes the idea of symmetry found in classical groups, but using the principles of quantum mechanics and noncommutative algebra. Quantum Groups play a significant role in modern mathematics and theoretical physics, particularly in the study of quantum field theory, knot theory, and statistical mechanics. They provide a framework for understanding symmetries in quantum systems that do not follow the traditional rules of classical groups.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quantum Group analyst?

To thrive as a Quantum Group Analyst, you need a strong background in mathematics, quantum mechanics, and group theory, typically supported by an advanced degree in physics or mathematics. Familiarity with computational tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, or Python, as well as experience with quantum computing platforms, is often required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating on complex research projects. These skills and qualifications are essential for accurately modeling quantum systems and contributing innovative solutions in advanced scientific or technological settings.

What are the typical responsibilities and collaboration methods for professionals at Quantum Group?

Professionals at Quantum Group often engage in multidisciplinary projects, working closely with teams in research, engineering, and business development to deliver innovative solutions. Daily tasks may include analyzing data, contributing to project meetings, and collaborating on technical documentation. Collaboration is highly encouraged, with frequent cross-functional meetings and opportunities to share expertise across different departments. This environment supports both individual growth and collective success, making it important for team members to communicate effectively and be adaptable to evolving project needs.

What is the difference between Quantum Group vs Quantum Analyst?

AspectQuantum GroupQuantum Analyst
Required CredentialsTypically advanced degrees in physics, engineering, or related fields; certifications in quantum computingSimilar educational background; certifications in data analysis or quantum computing are common
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, tech companies, or academic institutions focusing on quantum technologiesData analysis teams within tech firms, research centers, or finance sectors applying quantum concepts
Employer & Industry UsageQuantum technology companies, research institutions, government agenciesTech companies, financial firms, research organizations utilizing quantum algorithms
Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for roles in quantum research and developmentCompared for roles focused on data analysis and quantum algorithm implementation

The main difference is that Quantum Group refers to a collective or organization involved in quantum research, while a Quantum Analyst is an individual role focused on analyzing quantum data and algorithms. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds, but their responsibilities and work environments differ significantly.

Job description

Position Details
Title Postdoctoral Fellow in Quantum Materials and Devices - Deng Research Group Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Intelligent Systems Engineering Location Bloomington Position Summary
Indiana University, Bloomington
Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering
Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering
Postdoctoral Fellow in Quantum Materials and Devices - Deng Research Group
Prof. Bingchen Deng (https://luddy.indiana.edu/contact/profile/index.html?bingchen_deng) in the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on investigating emerging physical phenomena in low-dimensional quantum materials and leverage them in device applications. The candidates should be familiar with quantum physics and solid-state physics/devices and should have extensive hands-on experimental experience in one of the following fields: condensed matter physics, electrical engineering, or materials science. Prior experience in nanodevice fabrication and electrical/optical measurements is preferred but not required. The position is available immediately.
Our research explores fundamental science of low-dimensional quantum materials and their applications in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices. We study quantum confinement, light-matter interactions, topology, and strongly correlated electrons in a wide range of low-dimensional materials using nanofabricated devices and electrical and optical measurements. These efforts aim to uncover new physical phenomena and translate them into applications in semiconductor industry, quantum technologies, optical sensing, and so on.
We are committed to providing a supportive and collaborative environment for all group members to conduct innovative and independent research. The postdoctoral fellow will receive regular feedback and guidance through group meetings and individual meetings and will develop key technical and professional skills that are valuable for careers in academia or industry.

Appointment Type: Full-time non-tenure track appointment.
Salary: We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus generous benefits.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in one of the following or related fields by the time of the appointment: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Hands-on experimental experience with solid-state device/materials.
  • Proficiency in data processing software such as Origin, JMP, Mathematica, MATLAB.
  • Good communication skills including oral and written.
  • Strong work ethics, motivations, and problem-solving capabilities.
