What are Quality Raters?

Quality Raters are individuals who evaluate the relevance and quality of search engine results based on specific guidelines provided by companies like Google. Their feedback helps improve the accuracy and usefulness of search algorithms, ensuring that users receive the most relevant information. Quality Raters do not directly influence search rankings but provide valuable data that search engines use to refine and update their systems. This role is typically remote and requires attention to detail, critical thinking, and a good understanding of the assigned guidelines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quality Rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in the language of the evaluation, often supported by a college degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with web search engines, content guidelines, and online evaluation platforms is typically required. Excellent time management, adaptability, and objective judgment are key soft skills for delivering consistent and unbiased ratings. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure accurate, high-quality feedback that helps improve search engine algorithms and user experiences.

What are some common challenges Quality Raters face in maintaining consistency and objectivity in their evaluations?

Quality Raters often encounter challenges in interpreting and applying detailed guidelines consistently across a wide variety of content. Since the work involves subjective judgment, ensuring objectivity and minimizing personal bias is crucial. Regular updates to guidelines mean that raters need to stay current and adapt quickly to changes. Collaborating with peers through forums or team discussions can help clarify ambiguities, but raters must ultimately rely on their own understanding to make fair assessments. Mastering this balance is key to long-term success in the role.

What is the difference between Quality Rater vs Content Moderator?

Job description

Grow boldly with Pretium!

We’re looking for an onsite Quality Control Manager for our plant in Salt Lake City, Utah, who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and knows how to balance high standards with real-world production demands.

In this role, you’ll be the driving force behind product quality on the plant floor—partnering closely with operations, leading a team of inspectors and technicians, and ensuring every product that leaves our facility meets both customer expectations and internal standards.

About Us:

Pretium Packaging, founded in 1992, is a leading supplier of injection-blow molded plastic containers, renowned for our commitment to superior quality, value, and customer service. With 16 manufacturing facilities across North America, we provide innovative packaging solutions that meet the diverse needs of brand owners in the United States and Canada.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead all quality activities within the plant, including incoming materials, in-process inspections, and finished goods
  • Build, develop, and lead a team of quality technicians and inspectors across multiple shifts
  • Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to identify and resolve quality issues in real time
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Monitor and improve key quality metrics (scrap, defects, customer complaints, first-pass yield)
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Support and lead customer audits and quality system certifications
  • Establish and maintain standard work, inspection processes, and documentation
  • Act as the escalation point for quality concerns, including the authority to stop production when necessary

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of quality leadership experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics or packaging preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams in a fast-paced, multi-shift operation
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Experience working cross-functionally with plant leadership and influencing decision-making
  • Comfortable being hands-on and present on the production floor
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate challenging situations with confidence

Why This Role Matters:

This role is critical to the success of the plant. You won’t just be maintaining quality standards, you’ll be shaping how quality shows up in daily operations, influencing plant performance, and helping build a culture where doing things the right way is non-negotiable.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Reduced scrap and defect rates
  • Improved first-pass yield and customer satisfaction
  • Strong partnership with operations and plant leadership
  • A well-trained, accountable, and engaged quality team
  • Sustainable processes that prevent issues—not just react to them

If you’re someone who takes pride in getting it right the first time—and refuses to let quality slip, this is your kind of role.
