Job Summary

The Quality Control Chemist is an entry-level chemist opportunity to build fundamental skills while providing a valuable function within a cement facility that has a long history of innovation and improvement. Work as a team member to maintain the automated robotic laboratory, control quality aspects of the cement manufacturing process, and ensure the final product meets quality standards. Work to optimize consistent quality by solving problems across quality processes, the laboratory, and general plant systems.

Compensation
Responsibilities
  • Perform and ensure routine analysis, control quality, and maintain the operation of the quality control and quality assurance systems
  • Perform and ensure chemical and physical analysis on raw, semi-finished, and finished materials
  • Provide and ensure effective preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and troubleshooting are carried out on all laboratory analytical equipment, including an automated robo-lab
  • Maintain, monitor, and calibrate equipment to comply with all specifications
  • Create new or modify existing analytical procedures as required to facilitate improvement or optimization of process control and preventive maintenance knowledge
  • Coordinate with Lab Supervisor to ensure efficient operation of quality control and plant systems
  • Assist QC Supervisor in monitoring and ordering laboratory supplies, performing monthly inventories and reports, and performing other duties as assigned
  • Assist other departments with projects ranging from design and maintenance to production and environmental via direction from department heads
  • Uphold and work by CalPortland's core value set: integrity, safety, accountability, teamwork, respect, quality, and innovation
  • Comply with and enforce governmental procedures, rules, and regulations; comply with company policies and plant rules
Education

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in chemistry

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Excellent computer and MS Office skills
  • Hands-on; mechanically oriented
  • Intern experience within a heavy industrial facility is preferred
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
