Responsible for maintaining certification standards by updating and maintaining the Food Safety System by training, auditing, maintenance of QA related documents, as well as reassessment and validation of policies and procedures.

Audits the consistency and uniformity of all manufactured products to the approved specifications. Monitors and advises on the performance of the quality management system. Submits data and prepares reports on quality performance measured against established specifications. Collaborates with manufacturing to ensure that the Quality System is functioning properly. Advises organization on changes and implementation; provides training, tools and techniques resulting in the achievement of product quality. Manages the Quality Control function, monitors and audits quality of the product. Functions as the key decision maker on issues related to acceptability of ingredients, materials in process and finished goods in consultation with the production team. Interacts with production management, R&D, process engineering, warehouse and sanitation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supports SQF, Food Safety and Quality Programs. This includes all SQF standards and customer specific standards as identified in supporting documentation

2. Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management.

3. Follow PIM Brands GMP rules and ensures GMP and Food Safety standards are in compliance

4. Monitor fellow employees for adherence to GMP’s

5. Support HACCP policies and procedures and participate in Food Safety Inspections.

6. Ensure all quality procedures and processes are followed according to document policies

7. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all products manufactured by the plant as well as the raw materials, packaging materials, and operations required in the manufacturing process including quality specifications and standards

8. Determining if specifications are met.

9. Conducting material reviews and making product disposition decisions.

10. Provides technical support to operations by assisting in troubleshooting.

11. Ensures the quality of product and services by testing product, performing audits of product lines and placing defective products on hold.

12. Reviews CAPA (corrective action and preventive action) program for effectiveness to eliminate recurring non-conformances (food safety, customer complaints and first pass hold)

13. Performs other duties including but not limited to communicating holds and discrepancies with supervisors and other departments, completing various reports by reviewing Process Quality Records, maintaining hold logs, completing weekly and monthly reports.

14. Supervise the quality programs of the plant. Review and update all the Quality Control Reports of Packaging, Mogul/Kitchens, Panning.

15. Oversee incoming inspection process and monitor its effectiveness

16. Conduct employee training including GMP’s, HACCP, Quality Systems, Foreign Matter, Food Defense and Food Safety.

17. Manage Hold and Release Program and maintain the On-hold inventory records

18. Disposition of consumer returns

19. Responsible for all food safety and quality procedures including sampling and analysis.

20. Provides coaching, education and training of management staff and plant employees for Quality Control/Assurance

21. Assists the Quality and Operations Managers in managing third party, and federal audits and inspections

22. Assist SQF Practitioner to lead the development, implementation, review, maintenance, and communication to ensure the integrity of the SQF as well as the food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan

23. General supervising of Quality staff including completing weekly staff schedules, ensuring proper staffing coverage, coaching, training, disciplinary actions and performance review evaluations for quality associates

24. Ability to work additional hours as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and crouching. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools and controls. Lifting and moving of objects weighing at least 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated and considered to enable an individual to perform the essential job functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job will generally be performed in the manufacturing plant. When on the plant floor it is representative of a large, busy manufacturing operation. Noisy, active, objects on the floor, constant movement and traffic flow of motorized equipment. Hair net, beard net, assigned work uniform, protective eye wear and gloves are among the GMP required apparel that must be worn, if indicated, on the plant floor.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

· Bachelor of Science in food science, food technology or related fields strongly preferred, Masters preferred.

· Quality control experience in 24/7 food plant or pharmaceutical setting needed.

· HACCP and SQF Systems Certification

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred

· Ability to deliver professional and effective presentations to management and staff.

· Computer proficient in office software required.

· Must possess strong analytical, problem solving skills along with sound judgment.

· Statistical process control and quality systems experience required.

· Ability to anticipate as well as avoid potential problems based on prior experiences and knowledge of manufacturing and quality systems.

· Ability to work flexible hours when needed.

· Willing to be trained.
