Job description

General Labor/Helper

Position Overview:

The General Labor/Helper is responsible for supporting operational tasks to ensure materials are processed and handled according to specifications. This role involves operating equipment, inspecting, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment while adhering to company policies.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Verify that equipment is properly “set-up” to process material as needed.
  • Grind parts to remove imperfections and achieve required finish quality.
  • Assist in training co-workers as requested.
  • Perform daily inspection of pendulum control unit, wire ropes and other accessory equipment
  • Immediately report all deficiencies found and unusual noises and/or difficulties in operation of the equipment.
  • Identify material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbers. Determine weight of material and utilize crane with the appropriate capacity.
  • Assist and/or direct riggers in properly securing material on crane before moving material.
  • Always be ware of activity/co-workers in the area to ensure the safety of all. Advise all co-workers in the area before movement of material on overhead crane.
  • Follow all company policy procedures and be vigilant in watching for potential risks in the area and notify management of deficiencies identified.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate the overhead crane to load burn tables and roll machines.
  • Use a forklift to maneuver pallets to designated areas for inspection, palletizing, or bundling.
  • Assist in cutting off scrap from plates using a hand torch.
  • Assist in inspecting parts, marking information, and ensuring accuracy according to customer specifications.
  • Deburr parts and palletize as required.
  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks and maintain organization in assigned areas.
  • Assist in other operational areas as needed to support overall efficiency.
  • Understand, articulate, and enforce all company policies and procedures.
  • Report all safety violations or unsafe work conditions to management immediately.
  • Identify process deficiencies and report them to management for corrective action.
