Benefits Payment Analyst

Our client is seeking a Benefits Payment Analyst to play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and timely administration of retirement, disability, death, annuity, supplemental, and other benefit payments for participants and beneficiaries of multiemployer benefit plans. This position is responsible for reviewing benefit applications, verifying eligibility, processing benefit transactions, maintaining participant records, and providing exceptional service to participants, beneficiaries, trustees, employers, and other stakeholders.

To thrive/succeed as the Benefits Payment Analyst, you should have:        

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in benefits administration, pension administration, retirement plans, insurance, payroll, financial services, accounting, customer service, or a related field preferred; multiemployer (Taft-Hartley) benefit plan experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to accurately process transactions, maintain records, and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with participants, beneficiaries, employers, trustees, auditors, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat; ability to interpret plan provisions, administrative procedures, and regulatory requirements while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.

Your responsibilities as the Benefits Payment Analyst will include:        

  • Administer and process benefit payments by reviewing and processing retirement, disability, death, annuity, supplemental benefit, QDRO, and Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) applications; verifying eligibility, benefit elections, beneficiary designations, and supporting documentation in accordance with plan provisions and administrative procedures.
  • Maintain accurate participant and beneficiary records by processing status changes, beneficiary updates, suspensions, reinstatements, death notifications, and related transactions while ensuring the completeness and integrity of electronic and physical records.
  • Research and resolve benefit-related inquiries and issues by responding to participant, beneficiary, employer, union, trustee, auditor, attorney, and internal stakeholder requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
  • Support benefit payment operations and compliance activities by preparing payment transactions, reconciling benefit payment reports, reviewing death audit results, identifying discrepancies, and assisting with audits, appeals, compliance reviews, and special projects.
  • Contribute to operational excellence by collaborating with internal departments and external service providers, supporting system implementations and process improvement initiatives, and maintaining compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, privacy requirements, plan documents, and company policies.
