STRS Ohio, STRS STRS Ohio is seeking a Chief Actuary to join the Finance/Management team.

Established in 1920 and serving Ohioโ€™s educators, STRS Ohio is one of the nationโ€™s largest retirement systems, serving nearly 550,000 active, inactive, and retired public-school teachers, and university faculty members, managing approximately $96.3 billion as of June 30, 2025, in assets and paying more than $7 billion in benefits annually.

General Summary

Under the direction of the deputy executive director, Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), plan and manage all actuarial and enterprise risk management activities. Responsible for day-to-day actuarial operations and inquiries at State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio).

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Oversee preparation of data for annual independent actuarial valuations for pension and health care benefits.
  • Work closely with consulting actuary for completion, review and presentation of annual valuations and other analysis prepared for pension and health care benefits.
  • Prepare and present actuarial reports and analysis to management, stakeholders and State Teachers Retirement Board meetings serving as a trusted advisor in policy decisions.
  • Lead development and recommend long-term funding strategies for pension and health care plans, incorporating actuarial best practices.
  • Lead and oversee STRS Ohio's Enterprise Risk Management framework, integrating actuarial, financial, investment, operational and strategic risks.
Summary of Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance or business administration required.
  • Certification as Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries required.
  • Six to ten yearsโ€™ experience as an actuary in consulting or pension-related organization required.
  • Experience with pension actuarial software such as Proval preferred.
