Job Overview

We are seeking a GIS Technician to join the Geospatial Technologies department at Xcalibur MPH Spain, based in Madrid. The selected candidate will haveat least 3 years of professional experience in GIS and geospatial data management.

The role focuses on the production of thematic digital cartography, cartographic design, and the automation of GIS workflows and deliverables. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in vector and raster spatial analysis, supporting the development of high-quality geospatial products and technical solutions. The selected candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, supporting projects in natural resources, mining, infrastructure, environmental management, and other geospatial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and act as a point of contact for clients regarding the company's GIS services, ensuring the successful delivery of geospatial solutions and responding to technical requirements and enquiries.
  • Design and produce high-quality thematic digital cartography, ensuring compliance with corporate cartographic standards and client specifications.
  • Create professional cartographic layouts for technical reports and digital deliverables, applying best practices in map composition, symbology, visual hierarchy, and cartographic communication.
  • Develop and maintain automated GIS workflows for map production and deliverable generation using Python and GIS automation tools.
  • Create, publish, and maintain GIS content in ArcGIS Online, including Web Maps, hosted feature layers, Dashboards, Experience Builder applications, and Instant Apps.
  • Perform vector and raster spatial analysis, and manage, process, and validate geospatial datasets, implementing QA/QC procedures to ensure data integrity and product quality.
  • Manage and maintain spatial databases using PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver geospatial solutions for projects related to natural resources, mining, infrastructure, energy, and environmental management.
  • Provide technical support and contribute to the continuous improvement and standardisation of GIS production workflows and cartographic processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental sciences, Geography, Geology, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in GIS or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in thematic cartographic layout design (ArcGIS/QGIS) for map production and client deliverables.
  • Experience with vector and raster spatial analysis, geoprocessing techniques, and coordinate reference systems.
  • High level of English (mandatory). French or additional languages will be considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS) and computer-based cartography techniques.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, including publishing services from ArcGIS Pro, managing hosted feature layers, configuring Web Maps, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Instant Apps, and administering content within ArcGIS Online organisations.
  • Basic knowledge of Python, with the ability to develop simple GIS tools and automate geospatial workflows and repetitive project tasks.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, SQL, FME, PostgreSQL/PostGIS or other geospatial technologies will be considered an asset
