What are the primary responsibilities in the Advanced Database Engineer position?


Core responsibilities include designing database architecture solutions, developing and implementing databases, analyzing and maintaining operational databases, and adding new features to operational systems. This will include testing with real data and providing support to front-line customer facilities. A key responsibility is staying up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies and experimenting with new technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into RRC projects. You’re encouraged and expected to propose things that you believe will improve the applications and frameworks you’re working in. The ability to work unsupervised with minimal direction and the ability to self-start is a must.


What required background will make you successful?

  • Current TS/SCI Clearance
  • US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED
  • Degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, data management, or software development supporting an engineering-related domain
  • Demonstrated experience with deploying, administrating, managing, and scaling enterprise-level PostgreSQL database systems in Linux environments
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, and shell scripting in Linux environments
  • Experience with PostgreSQL database tuning, backup, recovery, and fail-over concepts in an enterprise-level environment 
  • Demonstrated experience with large data management, data pipeline, and ETL concepts
  • In addition to PostgreSQL, demonstrated hands-on experience with enterprise implementations using one or more RDBMS and NoSQL database software solutions, such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Citus Data, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Couchbase, Cassandra, or Redis
  • Demonstrated ability to design software systems to ensure they achieve functionality, performance, scalability, and maintainability requirements


Preferred skills: 

  • Security+ certification
  • DevOps and Cloud computing experience (Gitlab, CI/CD, CVE mitigations, Docker, Kubernetes, and PIP)
  • Experience with developing spatial database solutions supporting GIS software such as QGIS, PostGIS, Geoserver, and ArcGIS
  • Experience with Agile software development processes
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Python, C++, Golang, Rust, or Java, 
  • Experience with AL/ML development
  • Experience building dashboards using Grafana and/or Kabana
  • Experience with implementing and managing RDBMS databases using Storage Area Network (SAN) solutions, such as Everpure, NetApp, or EMC
  • Familiarity with developing backend REST APIs using JavaScript frameworks and/or Python frameworks
  • Familiarity with frontend Web development using JavaScript frameworks including Vue, React, and/or Angular 
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices for testability and readability
  • Ability to mentor other engineers and provide technical advice to project leaders

 

Where is the position located?

This position can be located at our Chantilly, VA; Centennial, CO or Tucson, Arizona Headquarters.

*The likely salary range for this position is $167,000 to $205,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
