The UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is seeking a full-time (100%) Sonographer t o perform a range of adult cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures and will take part in teaching, evaluating, and advising students, residents, and fellows within their area of expertise. The role includes assisting with invasive procedures and supporting a broad variety of vascular and echocardiography studies. The position will rotate between the echocardiography and vascular labs at our main medical campus, provide backup coverage at the North Liberty campus, and participate in the vascular lab call rotation. Work authorization in the U.S. is required; sponsorship is not available for this role.
Duties to include:
• Perform adult cardiac and vascular ultrasonography procedures and other complex invasive procedures to include: two-dimensional echo, M-mode, pulse wave and continuous wave Doppler, color flow Doppler, 3D, Strain, Exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echo studies, specialized diagnostic non-invasive vascular testing of the peripheral arterial, venous and cerebrovascular circulation.
• Assist physicians with acquiring images during TEE studies. And perform contrast and saline bubble studies as needed.
• Provide and maintain quality diagnostic adult echocardiographic and vascular exams.
• Perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed by standard accepted methods of operation.
• Maintain quality control in accordance with accepted departmental standards.
• Assist cardiologist and vascular surgeons with non-invasive, invasive or Doppler procedures.
• Recognize basic equipment malfunction and coordinate with appropriate parties to find resolutions.
• Provide information and instruction to patients, patient's family, or others regarding the nature of requested diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain continuing education as specified by the ARDMS and IAC.
• Contribute to preparation for IAC accreditation.
• Instruct Cardiology, Anesthesiology fellows, medical residents and other students on scanning techniques and proper equipment operation.
• Follow general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of UI Health Care, the College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, and UI Heart and Vascular Center.
• Assist with policy development and review.
• Function as a preceptor for orientation of new team members and students.
• Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect, honesty, and service; assure that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics.
• Ability to provide rotating, on-call coverage on weekends (Saturday/Sunday) and University Holidays as assigned.
• Provide coverage for the UI Heart and Vascular Center at Medical Campus University (MCU) and Medical Campus North Liberty (MCNL) as needed/assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education Requirement:
Requires completion of one of the following educational pathways:
• Completion of CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology or
• Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography or
• Completion of a bachelor's degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Cardiac Ultrasonography.
Experience Required:
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with patients/families, nursing staff and other multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University's Fleet Safety Program.

Certification/Licensure Requirement:
• Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Diagnostic Cardiac and Vascular Sonography required within nine (9) months following the start of employment.
• Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography required within nine (9) months following the start of employment.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required by start of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Cardiac Ultrasonography.
  • AART (CI) certification.
