Job Description
The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator plays a key role in bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice for aspiring Medical Assistants. This position is responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with externship sites to ensure students gain valuable hands-on experience in real-world healthcare settings.
The Coordinator oversees the operational and compliance aspects of the externship program while ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role is essential to fostering student success, improving employability outcomes, and strengthening the institution's partnerships within the medical community.
Responsibilities
  • Secure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring a variety of placement opportunities.
  • Achieve and maintain a minimum 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor student performance, address concerns, and maintain strong relationships with externship partners.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including TWC regulations.
  • Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to support students' transition from externship to employment.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations during externships.
  • Conduct externship orientations and assist students with resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
  • Track student progress throughout the externship and ensure completion of final evaluations and exit interviews.
  • Promote the externship program through outreach and networking within the medical community.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in the medical field.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • No prior teaching experience required; training will be provided.
