Job description

As a Porter at Redding Public Market (RPM), you will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for our guests and tenants. This janitorial-focused position ensures the market's common areas, bathrooms, and walkways remain spotless, supporting our high-traffic operations with 1,000 weekday and 1,500 weekend visitors. Your attention to detail will help uphold RPM's standards as a premier public market, similar to Oxbow Public Market.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize floors, walkways, and high-touch surfaces in common areas (3,428 sq ft indoor, 1,653 sq ft patio, and 559 sq ft bathrooms) using approved cleaning supplies and equipment.

  • Empty trash bins, manage waste disposal, and restock supplies in bathrooms and storage areas to prevent overflow and maintain order.

  • Perform routine janitorial tasks, such as mopping spills, wiping down surfaces, and ensuring compliance with sanitation protocols.

  • Monitor and report any maintenance issues (e.g., plumbing or lighting) to the assistant manager for prompt resolution.

  • Assist with after-hours setup or breakdown as needed, coordinating with the team to prepare for the next day's operations.

  • Follow RPM's safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to waste management procedures.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior janitorial or cleaning experience preferred.

  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Comfortable handling physical tasks in a dynamic environment.

  • Availability for part-time shifts (up to 30 hours/week), including evenings (e.g., 3:00 PMโ€“11:00 PM), weekends, and holidays.

  • Must be at least 18 years old; reliable transportation required.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift (up to 50 lbs) for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).

  • Frequent pushing/pulling of carts, mopping, and carrying supplies.

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and outdoor elements in the patio area.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $18.00

  • Part-time position with flexible scheduling, if exceeds 8 hours in one workday or 40 hours in one workweek, according to California labor laws.
