Position Information
Job Title PT LIBRARY ASSISTANT (Pool) Position Status Part Time Classification Title Part-Time Hourly-Up to 19 hpw Work Location Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX Job Summary
Provide first-level assistance to patrons using the Learning Resource Center. The LRC contains numerous physical and online resources for student and employee use, including digital and physical research materials, study spaces, tutor and testing services, and computing equipment. Library Assistants will help patrons access and use these resources and refer them to next-level assistance as needed. This position requires working evenings and weekends.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service experience
  • Good communication skills in verbal, digital, and written form
  • Knowledge of general office equipment, including computers and printers
  • Knowledge of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers
  • General Internet experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior library job experience
  • Knowledge of the research process
  • Proficiency with common library tools
  • Computer lab experience
  • Tutoring experience
  • Proctoring experience
  • Proficiency with the Canvas LMS

Essential Functions
  • Provide first-level research and circulation assistance
  • Demonstrate how to access and utilize library resources
  • Provide general computer assistance
  • Assist with testing and tutoring services
  • Collect usage and interaction data for trend tracking and library reporting
  • Refer patrons to other LRC staff and Midland College departments when appropriate
  • Maintain and troubleshoot computers, printers, and other office equipment, including refilling supplies, resolving minor problems, and reporting issues
  • Maintain an orderly environment, including reshelving books, rearranging furniture, and spot cleaning
  • Monitor supply levels and request new stock in sufficient time for resupply
  • Some evenings and weekends required
