We're seeking a Protein Commodity Trader to identify, sell, and move surplus and opportunistic protein inventories across beef, pork, chicken, and ground beef categories. In this highly visible role, you'll work cross-functionally with procurement, operations, production planning, and commercial leadership to maximize inventory recovery, capitalize on market opportunities, and improve overall profitability.
The ideal candidate has an established network of protein buyers and distributors throughout the Western U.S. and thrives in a fast-paced, relationship-driven trading environment.
What You'll Do:
  • Develop and grow a network of buyers for surplus and commodity protein inventories
  • Sell fresh, frozen, short-dated, excess, distressed, and spot-market protein products
  • Identify opportunities to quickly move aging inventory and production overages
  • Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, and competitive activity across beef, pork, chicken, and ground beef
  • Partner with procurement, operations, and production teams to proactively manage inventory opportunities and risks
  • Negotiate pricing, freight, and transaction terms to maximize margin recovery
  • Maintain daily visibility into inventory positions, production overages, and aging product
  • Expand relationships with specialty distributors, wholesalers, processors, exporters, and industrial customers
  • Track sales activity, inventory movement, and market intelligence while supporting inventory optimization initiatives

What We're Looking For:
  • 4+ years of experience in protein sales, commodity trading, meat distribution, or surplus food sales
  • Strong knowledge of beef, pork, chicken, and ground beef commodity markets
  • Established relationships with specialty distributors, protein wholesalers, foodservice customers, brokers, or traders throughout the Western United States
  • Experience selling within West Coast and regional protein markets
  • Proven ability to identify and capitalize on spot market and opportunistic sales
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience in protein trading, commodity protein sales, ground beef and beef trim markets
  • Surplus, excess, or distressed inventory management
  • Export protein channels
  • Logistics and freight coordination
  • Knowledge of USDA protein specifications and industry terminology
