Job description

Scope of Position

The Director of Finance will manage the day-to-day operation of the accounting office and assist the Complex Director of Finance to provide financial leadership to the business. He/she will be responsible for reporting, budgeting/forecasting, audit and control, asset and liability reconciliation, working capital and cash control. The Director of Finance will also assist with capital expenditure plans, owner reporting.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of hotel accounting experience at supervisory level as Assistant Controller/Controller
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospitality operating systems and software.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Prior Great Plains, Prophix, Opera, Toast POS and Paycom experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple properties.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial accounting and reporting, including effective internal accounting controls.
  • Provide financial advisory services to operational managers.
  • Ensure all local, state and federal accounting related legislation is always adhered to.
  • Safeguard all hotel assets and financial resources, ensuring all assets are used to maximize hotel profitability.
  • Monitor, control and record all sales, purchases, salaries, expenses, capital programs and operational statistics.
  • Prepare a comprehensive monthly report of the financial results for the hotel in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepare weekly forecasts and annual operational and capital budgets.  Report on variances.
  • Conduct periodic detailed internal audits.  Prepare written comprehensive action plans to correct any deficiencies.
  • Recruit appropriately skilled accounting employees according to hotel guidelines.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in establishing policies, rules and internal controls that ensure profitability and control of operations.
  • Assist the Director of Finance to hire, train, supervise and develop staff, including coaching, counseling, and discipline.
  • Perform any other duties requested by management.

Education

  • 4-year University/College degree in Finance, Accounting or related major.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus. 
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets as well as analyze and summarize financial data using appropriate financial software.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly, correctly, and in a way that allows one to solve work-related issues.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and work independently.
  • Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements

  • On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen.
  • Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk.
  • Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.
  • Physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
