Job description

A&E Machine Shop is seeking a dynamic, detail‐oriented Sales Estimator to join our team and help drive growth through accurate project cost assessments, strategic client engagement, and proactive business development. This role is ideal for an estimator with hands‐on experience in welding, fabrication, machining, and construction‐related projects who is equally comfortable preparing competitive bids and building long‐term customer relationships.

The Sales Estimator plays a critical role in ensuring project profitability while maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in a fast‐paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for:
  • Welding and fabrication projects
  • Machining work
  • Equipment repair and custom builds
  • Review requests for quotes (RFQs), project plans, specifications, and blueprints
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, shop personnel, and subcontractors to fully understand project scope, requirements, and constraints
  • Utilize estimating software to develop detailed cost proposals covering labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and subcontracted services
  • Create, submit, and follow up on quotes and proposals
  • Develop new leads and business opportunities while maintaining and growing existing customer relationships
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive costs
  • Analyze job costs and pricing accuracy to support cost control initiatives
  • Assist in developing bid strategies aligned with company goals and market conditions
  • Support contract review processes by providing detailed cost analysis and ensuring scope alignment
  • Meet with customers and conduct job site visits as needed
  • Track bid outcomes and continuously improve estimating accuracy

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of estimating experience in welding, fabrication, machining, or construction‐related environments
  • Strong understanding of welding and fabrication processes and machine shop operations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Solid math skills, strong organizational ability, and high attention to detail
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating software tools
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with ASME or industrial fabrication standards
  • Familiarity with job costing, ERP systems, or construction estimating software
  • Hands‐on shop, field, or industrial sales experience
  • Knowledge of construction site operations, safety standards, and construction management principles
