Job description

Project Procurement Manager
We are looking for a Project Procurement Manager located in our Westbury, NY facility. In this role you will play a vital role within the Purchasing organization of the Oerlikon Surface Solutions Equipment business, supporting project-based customer orders and project execution. The role requires strong project procurement expertise, effective stakeholder management, collaboration with Global Category Managers, and technical understanding to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, assemblies, and services.
Working closely with Operational Buyers, Project Managers, Engineering, Assembly, and other cross-functional teams, the Project Procurement Manager contributes to project success by ensuring supply chain reliability, cost competitiveness, quality, and on-time delivery. This role has no direct people management responsibility but provides functional leadership within project teams.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate local procurement activities for all materials and services related to Equipment projects in alignment with local stakeholders, Operational Purchasing, and Global Category Management strategies.
  • Ensuring compliant Procurement in accordance with guidelines and directives
  • Execute and support project procurement activities, including supplier selection, RFQs, and negotiations. Align procurement activities with project milestones and ensure the on-time delivery of project materials and services.
  • Analyze project cost estimates, budgets and forecasts to identify cost savings opportunities. Accountable for achieving annual procurement cost savings and project procurement performance targets.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to understand project requirements, timelines, and budgets while representing the procurement perspective and supporting the achievement of project milestones
  • Ensuring proper and optimal Supply Chain, Cost Competitiveness and Quality & Service requirements
  • Lead commercial negotiations and establish framework agreements with key suppliers. Develop contract strategies, including multi-year agreements where appropriate, to manage market risks, secure supply continuity, and optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Selection, qualification and contracting of new suppliers for local needs (or support in the case of global suppliers). Apply company standard templates to address procurement related business risks through effective management of contracts.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to project procurement. Proactively communicate with the stakeholders regarding supply chain risks, such as supplier capacity, lead time and quality issues to minimize project disruptions
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase orders and project-related documentation. Generate reports on project procurement activities, cost savings or cost avoidance achieved and provide regular updates to management and project teams as required
  • Coordinate procurement activities across multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring material and service availability in line with project schedules.
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships to ensure supply continuity, capacity availability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Provide functional leadership within project teams and represent procurement interests in key sourcing, commercial, and supply chain decisions.
  • Apply technical knowledge to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers regarding technical specifications and project requirements.

Your Profile:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field
  • Professional certifications in the areas of procurement (e.g. CIPS) and project management (e.g. PMI) are an advantage
  • At least 3 years of Procurement experience in an industrial environment
  • Affinity for technical equipment, assembly groups and their requirements
  • Sound process and methodological competence in purchasing
  • Communicative Team Player with good negotiating- and winning presentation skills
  • Enjoy working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem solving skills
  • Fluency in English required. German language skills are considered an asset.
  • Very good user skills in MS Office
  • Solid experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP or equivalent enterprise platforms
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to attend project-related activities or visit suppliers
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, project teams, and the Global Category Manager
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with internal teams

For individuals assigned, hired to work or working remotely in/out of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, Washington State, or New York City, Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $90,000 to $120,000 per year. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
