Job Title: Estimator โ€“ Underground Wet Utilities

Location: Tempe, AZ

Company: North Star Pipelines

About Us: North Star Pipelines is a leading underground utility subcontractor, specializing in wet utilities. Our company was founded in 1991 and has a reputation for high quality and reliable service. We work across Metro Phoenix and Maricopa County for commercial General Contractors. We are looking for a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to join our team and support our underground wet utility projects.

Position Overview: As an Estimator, you will prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial underground wet utility projects. You'll work closely with project managers to ensure that projects are scoped accurately and priced effectively. You will support project management and help ensure cost control throughout the project. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to develop their career in estimating and construction, with a focus on underground utility systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cost estimates for underground wet utility projects (water, sewer, storm drains, firelines, etc.)
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to gather necessary information for accurate estimates
  • Perform accurate quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment
  • Research and analyze market rates for materials, labor, and subcontractors
  • Obtain and compare subcontractor, vendor, and supplier pricing
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key vendors
  • Collaborate with senior estimators, project managers, and clients to review and revise estimates as needed
  • Support in the preparation of bid packages and proposals
  • Handle multiple bids per week and meet strict deadlines
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimating
  • Maintain a tracker of all projects and their various stages of the bid process
  • Help identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities in project scope and execution
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, standards, and new materials or technologies
  • Assist with Project Management with construction phase as needed
  • Additional duties may include ordering, purchase, orders, scheduling, RFI's, submittals, bluestake and change orders

Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction estimating
  • Experience in underground utilities
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Understanding of MAG specifications and local supplements
  • Proficiency in office software including, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe
  • Ability to multi-task and good time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical-thinker and problem-solver
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the field of estimating and construction
  • Ability to lift or move up to 30 pounds
  • Capable of working in all outdoor temperatures and weather conditions
