POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Project Engineer directly supports the company's mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. You will join Nordex North America as part of the Global Project Engineering Support group to support business in North America. As a Project Engineer, you will provide leadership and technical expertise across electrical systems and SCADA throughout the lifecycle of utility-scale wind farm power plants.

You will interact with key project stakeholders and oversee project execution for the successful integration of wind turbine generators (WTGs), electrical systems, and SCADA systems-from design and planning through commissioning.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Lead the design, planning, and commissioning of:
    • Electrical systems including WTG switchgear and BOP design
    • SCADA systems including network architecture, HMI, and communication systems
  • Coordinate installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities for electrical and SCADA systems (including FAT and SAT).
  • Oversee configuration and integration of:
    • Power plant control systems
    • Protection relays, CTs/VTs
    • Communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, SQL, etc.)
  • Review and manage project documentation including specifications, network diagrams, substation designs, and as-built drawings.
  • Provide expert-level technical support for electrical and SCADA system configurations.
  • Maintain project documentation in central databases and support knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Support on-site teams and customers during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, ISO, and other applicable regulatory and technical standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and global Nordex organization to support successful project execution.
  • Provide status updates, identify risks, and support mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent accredited engineering program
  • PHD in Power Electronics is desirable.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Project Engineer (Electrical, SCADA, or similar)
  • Experience with:
    • BOP design, substations, and WTG integration
    • CADA systems and power plant control systems
    • System integration and commissioning (electrical and communication interfaces)
  • Wind energy experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, utility automation, relay protection, and industrial automation systems
  • Experience with SCADA systems, communication networks, and industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC, SQL)
  • Familiarity with standards such as NERC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, IEC, UL/CSA, and EN norms
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers at all levels
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently within a global team environment
  • English & French Proficiency is required. Other languages are a plus (German & Spanish).
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (20% typical).
  • Must be able to work in Canada with no Company sponsorship and have the ability to obtain a valid passport
  • Ability to successfully complete all Canadian regulatory laws surrounding pre-employment screening requirements.
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver's license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver's abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.

The pay for this role is exempt at $155k - $168k CAD salary with up to a 10% bonus.ย  Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
