Job description

Project Engineer
Location: Coldwater, MI | Onsite
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting and leading capital projects that enhance manufacturing operations, improve efficiency, and drive business performance. This role partners cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, safety, and external vendors to deliver projects from concept through startup. The Project Engineer will develop technical solutions, support project execution, and build project management skills through increasing ownership and complexity of assignments. This position is designed to grow into a Senior Project Engineering role through demonstrated performance and leadership development.
Responsibilities
Project Execution & Delivery
  • Lead and support capital projects from concept through startup, with increasing ownership over time
  • Assist in managing project scope, budgets, timelines, and vendor coordination
  • Develop project plans, track milestones, and ensure timely execution of deliverables
  • Support equipment installations and lead startup activities in partnership with operations

Engineering & Design
  • Create and review production line layouts and equipment designs using CAD tools
  • Translate operational needs into practical, cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Partner with suppliers and contractors to develop and implement equipment and systems

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability
  • Troubleshoot operational and technical issues and implement corrective actions
  • Support the development and standardization of engineering processes and documentation

Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, FSQA, safety, and maintenance
  • Communicate project updates and translate technical information for diverse stakeholders
  • Contribute to commercialization and new product development initiatives

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field)
  • 2-5 years of engineering or project experience (manufacturing environment preferred)
  • Experience supporting or leading projects from concept through implementation
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges
  • Working knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, budget)
  • Proficiency with CAD or similar engineering design tools
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments
  • Frequent walking of production areas with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and industrial equipment
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting up to 25lbs

Travel Requirements
  • Up to 15-25% travel may be required for vendor visits, plant support, and project implementation
