TheProject Development Engineer (PDE)is responsible for measuring and modeling energy, using and evaluating new technologies, renewables, and the retrofitting of existing equipment to improve efficiency. Performs ASHRAE audits and collaborates with Design and Construction to ensure proper design and implementation planning.

Preferable if candidates are in proximity to the Ameresco offices in the Tri-State area (CT, NJ, NY), and able to commute to those offices.

However, for the face to face interview portion of the process, candidate will be expected to travel to the Framingham Headquarters of Ameresco.

Responsibilities:

  • The Project Development Engineer (PDE) is responsible for supporting, and potentially leading (based on experience) the development of energy and water efficiency improvements as well as the development of renewable energy and storage opportunities, primarily in the Northeast Region. The position is responsible for both personally working on and collaborating with internal and external teams associated with Ameresco led projects.

  • Work collaboratively with the development and sales teams to identify and evaluate opportunities for energy and water conservation, efficiency, or renewable technology. Prepare energy savings calculations, develop baseline profiles, and provide end-use and retrofit analyses;

  • Prepare preliminary design (30%) of proposed energy improvements and collaborate with local contractors for budgetary pricing;

  • Coordination design and development group activities in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of projects as required by the contract;

  • Collaborate efforts to prepare conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents, cost estimates, drawings, and specifications for energy and water efficient technologies and/or renewable technologies;

  • Interface with other departments, management, and non-technical staff to collaborate technical diligence with a business solution in mind;

  • Prepare and populate internal financial models, providing ROI, life cycle costing, and internal rate of return specifics to the team and customer;

  • Develop Measurement and Verification plans for projects requiring a guarantee;

  • Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports,cost estimates, and presentations;

  • Execute project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings;

  • Compliance with company, industry, trade,and jurisdictionalsafety standards, practices, codes;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Mechanical engineering

  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience acting in an energy or project development engineering role, including experience with: site auditing, utility data analysis, project development, energy and water savings calculations and modeling, renewable energy calculations and modeling, energy studies, face-to-face customer interaction, financial analysis, various contracting models, rebate and incentives, performance contracting.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Professional Certifications or education progress toward certification viewed as favorable for position requirements (EIT, PE, MBA, CEM, NABCEP).

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, quantify, and qualify energy savings and implement complex technical solutions involving supply side savings opportunities, water conservation, waste management, distributed generation, and renewable energy technology.

  • Knowledge of HVAC, lighting, water, metering, and energy generation technologies.

  • Knowledge of solar PV modeling and applications.

  • Demonstrated skills in priority organization, technical writing, detail-oriented approach, with ability to produce big picture results in a fast-paced business environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work with multi-functional teams including: sales, customers, equipment vendors, multi discipline engineers, and utilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated ability to self-start project tasks, work proactively, work to understand project objectives, deliverables, timeframes, and expectations.

  • Ability to travel to project sites to support development efforts.

  • Travel less than 50% of the time.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $122,000-$176,000 per year (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
