Job description

Zachry Engineering Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Controls Specialist III to support major industrial and energy projects in Hammond, Indiana. This position is responsible for planning, scheduling, cost control, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting activities throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Controls Specialist III will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, construction personnel, and client stakeholders to ensure project performance is accurately measured, reported, and aligned with established project objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, expertise in project controls systems, and experience supporting large-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with previous experience in other functional areas. 
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in project controls with a focus on the Energy, oil and gas and Chemicals engineering industry.
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to resolve complex situations with appropriate management.
  • Requires excellent working knowledge of project management software, specifically Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel.
  • Must have a proven record and experience leading the project controls effort on assigned projects.
  • Must have an understanding of the basic principles of project management.
  • Requires an excellent general understanding of Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, and Change Control
  • Must have a high degree of computer literacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work in a general office environment. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software.

  • Monitor project progress and performance against baseline schedules and budgets.

  • Support cost engineering functions, including cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly project controls reports for project management and client review.

  • Analyze schedule impacts, critical path activities, and recovery plans.

  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and project management teams to collect and validate project progress data.

  • Review and evaluate subcontractor and vendor schedule submissions.

  • Identify project risks and opportunities affecting schedule and cost performance.

  • Support change management processes, including schedule and cost impact assessments.

  • Participate in project review meetings and provide recommendations to improve project performance.

  • Develop project dashboards, performance metrics, and management reports.

  • Ensure project controls processes comply with company standards and client requirements.
