Job description

We are looking for a Project Accountant to join a growing team in Port Washington, New York. This position is ideal for someone with strong construction accounting experience who can oversee high-volume project billing while staying organized in a fast-moving environment. The role works closely with project managers and senior leadership to support accurate financial reporting and maintain visibility into project performance.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee billing activities for multiple construction-related projects, ensuring invoices are prepared accurately and submitted on schedule.
• Partner with project managers to track job financials, review costs, and address billing or budget questions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and maintain project-level accounting records, including revenue, expenses, contract values, and payment activity.
• Generate financial reports for leadership that highlight project status, billing progress, and key account activity.
• Use AS400 and advanced Microsoft Excel tools to analyze data, reconcile accounts, and support reporting needs.
• Monitor accounts receivable related to project work and follow up on outstanding balances when needed.
• Assist with month-end close tasks by reviewing project transactions, reconciling discrepancies, and supporting accurate financial results.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to help ensure project accounting processes align with construction contract requirements.• Experience in project accounting, with a strong background supporting construction projects.
• Proven ability to manage a high volume of billing in a deadline-driven environment.
• Knowledge of construction accounting practices, including project cost tracking and contract-based billing.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project managers and senior leadership.
