Project Accountant

Office Location: 601 First Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504

Position Classification: Full-Time Regular

Rockford Construction is seeking a Project Accountant to support the accounting operations of assigned construction projects, focusing on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project-related financial processes. This role partners closely with project teams and the management staff to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely payments, and successful execution of company objectives.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments. Key responsibilities include preparing owner pay applications, processing trade contractor payments, and collecting and reviewing sworn statements and lien waivers throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is reliable, analytical, detail-oriented, and has a basic understanding of accounting principles. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders are essential. What Will I Do?

    • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Prepare and assemble monthly owner pay applications
    • Maintain and adjust project budgets and change orders
    • Serve as a resource for resolving accounts payable and accounts receivable issues
    • Track project receivables and monitor collections
    • Enter trade contractor invoices into approval workflow system
    • Review sworn statements and tiered lien waivers for accuracy and compliance
    • Monitor project underbilling and assist with resolution
    • Manage and process trade payables based on contract terms
    • Act as liaison between operations, vendors/trade contractors, and owners
    • Assist with month-end close and audit preparations as needed
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

    • Associate degree in Accounting or a minimum of three years of accounting experience (Bachelor's degree preferred)
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
    • Experience with ERP; Acumatica experience a plus
    • Experience with Project Management software (Procore) a plus
    • High attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
    • Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and supporting team success
