Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and promotes a unit within an academic or student services division or multifaceted academic/student services support function or a single academic or student services program.
Distinguishing Career FeaturesThe Associate Dean represents an expanded first level administrator position directing academic programs and/or services reporting to a Dean or Vice President. The Associate Dean may preside over a single program (e.g., Nursing), career and technical education programs, or academic and student services of a non-degree nature. The Associate Dean may also preside over multiple student services programs, providing strategic programmatic intersectionality. The Associate Dean title may also be used as part of a career growth and succession plan to become a Dean.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe position requires a Masterβs degree and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administratorβs administrative assignment. Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for the position. Application of equivalency is required.
Desirable qualification is a Masterβs degree with a major or concentration in collegiate-level curriculum (academic and/or career subject/major) counseling, psychology, or related area and fouryears of experience delivering and administering instruction, student services, with one year in a leadership capacity. A California Community College Credential authorizing administrative service is desirable.
Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
Licenses and CertificatesMay require a valid driver license.
Working ConditionsWork is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
This is a full-time, 12 month per year educational administrator position. The normal hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours will vary and may include nights and/or weekends in order to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
