Job description
The Program Director position is a year‑round management role responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Clubhouse program for youth ages 5 to 18 within a designated Club. The Program Director supports our three priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship. They will also provide leadership and supervision to the assigned program and volunteer staff. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to helping manage member and grant databases; coaching, training, and developing program staff; managing budgets; and controlling expenses as assigned.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities) Prepare for Youth Success- Plan and oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes.
- Establish Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
- Oversee the provision of day‑to‑day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
- Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills.
- Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.
- Establish and maintain Clubhouse program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
- Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate program standards; that they ensure program areas are safe, well‑ventilated, and well‑lit; and that club equipment is maintained in good working order.
- Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and responsiveness to member needs while addressing gender and cultural diversity.
- Control Clubhouse program and activity expenditures within the approved budget.
- Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
- Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
- Oversee proper record keeping and reporting, including activities and events conducted, daily participation figures, notable achievements, and any problems/issues.
- Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.
- Increase visibility of Club programs via posting daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events, and dissemination of timely information.
- Assist Senior Director in establishing and maintaining a partnership with local schools to increase membership and ADA of the designated Clubhouse.
- May oversee special programs and/or events (e.g., Keystone, Youth of the Year, Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
- May be required to drive the Club van periodically.
- May consult with parents concerning member and branch issues.
- Help to increase development of front‑line staff by completing NTI Tier 2 TOT, Weikart Methods TOT, and Weikart External Assessor Training.
- Assist in the general upkeep of the site, participating in regular walkthroughs while working closely with the Senior Director to implement maintenance systems.
- Volunteer Management and tracking.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Attend BGCA’s Club Directors Academy to ensure knowledge of the Continuous Quality Improvement Process.
Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
ExternalMaintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED- Four‑year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience with budget management
- Able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds for short periods of time.
