The following are tasks to be performed by the Business Development Manager. The duties are not limited to this list. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility and duty satisfactorily.


SUMMARY:

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing key customer relationships, and overseeing customer program execution through the management of Program Managers and Account Managers. This role supports the full customer lifecycle from initial engagement and opportunity development through program launch and sustained production. The Business Development Manager will also lead trade show planning and execution, including developing strategies for marketing the company at events and eventually managing a small events/marketing team focused on the markets we serve. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, precision machining, and related secondary operations. Travel may be required for customer visits and trade shows, up to 30% of the time. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving revenue growth, maintaining strong customer partnerships, supporting quoting and contract negotiations, and ensuring successful program execution across all assigned accounts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or related experience that supports the Job Roles & Duties listed below.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in Business Development, Technical Sales, or Account Management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous leadership or management experience preferred.
  • Experience within Injection Molding, Precision Machining, or advanced manufacturing industries preferred.
  • Experience working with Aerospace, Defense, Medical, or other regulated manufacturing sectors desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business and grow strategic customer relationships.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability concepts preferred.
  • Experience with CRM systems and pipeline management tools preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities aligned with the company’s strategic growth objectives.
  • Develop and execute strategies to expand the company’s presence in targeted industries including Aerospace, Defense, Medical, and advanced technology sectors.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and track opportunities through the complete sales cycle.
  • Lead customer outreach efforts including meetings, presentations, and facility tours.
  • Support proposal development, contract negotiations, and opportunity closing activities.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with both existing and prospective customers.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for key accounts and strategic customer relationships.
  • Work proactively with customers to identify new opportunities and program expansions.
  • Ensure customer expectations related to quality, delivery, and communication are consistently met.

Program & Account Team Leadership

  • Manage and provide leadership to Program Managers and Account Managers.
  • Ensure program teams maintain strong communication with customers throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability for the customer management team.
  • Conduct regular meetings and performance reviews with Program Managers and Account Managers.
  • Provide guidance and support to resolve customer concerns or program issues.

Trade Show & Market Event Leadership

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute company participation in trade shows and industry events.
  • Develop strategies to showcase company capabilities tailored to target markets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define messaging, marketing materials, and product demonstrations.
  • Build a framework to eventually manage a small team dedicated to trade shows and market events.
  • Track event ROI and adjust strategies to maximize business development impact.

Opportunity Development & Quoting Support

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to support the development of accurate and competitive quotes.
  • Ensure customer requirements, specifications, and timelines are clearly communicated during the quoting process.
  • Support pricing strategies that align with company profitability objectives.
  • Monitor quote-to-order conversion performance and identify improvement opportunities.

Program Launch & Customer Coordination

  • Support program launches by ensuring alignment between customer expectations and internal manufacturing capabilities.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams to address customer requirements and program milestones.
  • Assist program teams in resolving issues that arise during program development and production.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Growth

  • Monitor industry trends, customer developments, and competitive activity.
  • Provide leadership with insights regarding market opportunities and customer needs.
  • Support long-term strategic planning initiatives for business growth.

Metrics & Performance Management

Track and report key sales and customer performance metrics including:

  • New business acquisition
  • Sales pipeline development
  • Quote-to-order conversion rates
  • Revenue growth
  • Customer satisfaction metrics
    • Maintain accurate customer records and opportunity tracking within the CRM system.
    • Provide regular updates to leadership regarding business development performance and market activity.
