Program Manager Project Manager information

What is a program manager project manager?

Program Managers and Project Managers are both leadership roles in organizations, but they have distinct responsibilities. Program Managers oversee multiple related projects, aligning them with organizational goals and managing their interdependencies. Project Managers, on the other hand, are responsible for planning, executing, and closing individual projects within scope, time, and budget. While Project Managers focus on day-to-day project activities, Program Managers ensure that all projects contribute to the broader business objectives.

How do program managers and project managers typically collaborate within an organization?

Program Managers and Project Managers often work closely together to ensure the successful delivery of organizational objectives. While Project Managers focus on overseeing specific projects, Program Managers are responsible for coordinating multiple related projects to align with broader business goals. Effective collaboration involves regular communication, progress updates, and joint problem-solving to address dependencies or resource constraints. This partnership ensures that projects stay on track and contribute to the overall success of the program. Job seekers can expect to engage in cross-functional meetings and strategic planning sessions as part of this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a program manager project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Program Manager Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills, often backed by a degree in business or a related field and certifications like PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Jira, or Asana is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management abilities help you navigate complex projects and lead diverse teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope and budget, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

In summary, Program Managers oversee multiple related projects to achieve strategic business objectives, while Project Managers focus on executing individual projects efficiently. Both roles require similar certifications but differ in scope and responsibilities.

Is a program manager higher than a project manager?

A program manager typically oversees multiple related projects and is responsible for strategic alignment and overall program success, making the role higher in scope than a project manager, who manages individual projects. Program managers often require broader skills in leadership, planning, and stakeholder management, and may hold certifications like PgMP. The roles can vary by organization, but generally, program managers have greater responsibility and authority than project managers.

Who gets paid more, a program manager or a project manager?

Generally, program managers tend to earn higher salaries than project managers because they oversee multiple projects and have broader responsibilities. Job description

Our company exists to promote and protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our core expertise is in small, lightweight, high performance multi-mode radar systems for unmanned and manned aircraft. We cover the entire life-cycle, often beginning with defining a market where none exists, designing and building the product, training the customer on how to use the system, and supporting it in the field.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a Program Manager with a strong emphasis on product sales to join our talented team. Beyond skills and experience, we value cultural alignment-someone who embodies our core values, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is committed to our mission. These are our values, and they define how we behave and how you can succeed with our company:

Our Core Values

  • All in - We're all in the same boat
  • Stand up - We stand accountable with integrity
  • Can-do - Innovate with a can-do attitude.

This role involves overseeing the production, delivery, and ongoing support of radar systems to our partners around the globe as well as managing projects and programs that create new radar capabilities and features. As a Program Manager, you will be responsible for:

Program Execution: Utilize project management methodologies and best practices to initiate and oversee programs throughout their lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers. Serve as a trusted advisor to key client stakeholders through regular touchpoints and strategic business reviews to ensure high levels of satisfaction.

Onboarding & Adoption: Guide new clients through product configuration, platform integration, and training to secure fast time-to-value success and continuous engagement.

Risk and Issue Management: Monitor program efforts to identify and mitigate program risks and issues.

Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with business development, engineering, manufacturing, and other departments to ensure customer requirements and program objectives are met. Facilitate communication and coordination among teams to achieve program goals.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) regarding scope, schedule, quality, and program budget and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

We're looking for a highly motivated, adaptable, and organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to learn.

Required:

  • Proven experience in program management, preferably in the defense or technology sector.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of preparing and delivering presentations to senior leadership and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of making data-driven decisions.
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events, and program-related activities.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, CAPM certification from the Project Management Institute, or equivalent training and experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance.

Desired:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency in Atlassian Jira and Confluence software.
  • Experience in radar technology or related fields, with an understanding of radar systems and their applications.
  • Familiar with military and/or government offices, entities, and chains of command.
  • Active DoD Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance.

We like to take care of our team members so you can focus on your best work. Here is what you can expect from us:

  • A competitive salary
  • A high value on work-life balance and a flexible schedule
  • A generous profit-sharing bonus
  • A 401(k) match and employer HSA contributions
  • An excellent benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • 100% company paid Short- and Long-Term disability and Life insurance
  • PTO, plus 11 holidays off throughout the year including the week between Christmas and New Years
  • A really great place to work

We encourage you to take a look at our website and spend a little time researching what we do. If this opportunity looks like a good fit to you, we would love to hear from you. When you apply, please include a resume and an informal cover letter explaining what you are passionate about and what interests you most about the opportunity.
