Job description

Role: Engineering Program Manager

Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)

Salary: $110,000 - $150,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits

Role Overview:

Seasats is seeking an Engineering Program Manager (EPM) to drive the execution of cross-functional engineering programs for autonomous surface vessels (ASVs). The EPM is responsible for translating customer and program requirements into coordinated engineering execution, ensuring that complex, multi-disciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, software, autonomy) are delivered on schedule, validated, and ready for production.

The EPM serves as the primary bridge for cross-functional communication and program execution. They work closely alongside the Customer Success Manager and the Manufacturing Operations Program Manager, ensuring a clear understanding of customer requirements, efficient and effective engineering, and manufacturable, scalable results. Acting as a servant-leader, the EPM curates the flow of ideas, energy, and people, ensuring team alignment with strategic priorities.

Role Details:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Owning execution of engineering programs from concept through validation and handoff to production
  • Developing and maintaining integrated program schedules across Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, and Testing teams
  • Ensuring programs are delivered on time, on budget, and to performance requirements
  • Managing engineering development builds (prototype, integration, validation)
  • Delivering executive communication/presentations and drive decision-making processes
  • Managing the design review process and test campaigns

About You:

You are an organized, detail-oriented servant leader with excellent communication skills. You're comfortable distilling complex projects down to tangible details. Additionally, you have:

  • 4-10+ years experience in hardware program management, systems engineering, and product development (robotics, aerospace, maritime, or similar)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Robotics, or equivalent technical experience
  • Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams and complex programs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A keen sense for understanding and visualizing timelines, critical choke points and decision gates
  • A ruthless sense of urgency, paired with unwillingness to compromise on quality
  • Strong understanding of hardware development lifecycle, system integration, and testing and validation
  • Able to obtain a security clearance

In addition, it's nice (though not essential) if you have:

  • Experience with Agile, Spiral or Hybrid project management methodologies
  • Experience with government engineering and software development processes

About Seasats:

At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you'll find the space and opportunity to do your life's best work.

Along with your salary, you'll receive perks including:

  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO

Hiring Notes:

When applying, you'll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.

Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.

We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, and we're committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds.
