Job description

Job Title:Vulnerability Management InternRole Overview:The Vulnerability Management Intern will support McAfee's centralized Vulnerability Management program by assisting in vulnerability identification, analysis, prioritization, reporting, and remediation tracking across enterprise and cloud environments. Your role includes involvement in responding to newly published threat advisories, helping drive timely remediation, and documenting key processes and findings within Confluence. You will gain hands-on experience with enterprise security tools, risk-based prioritization models, and audit/compliance processes while contributing to program maturity initiatives.
This is a Hybrid position located in Frisco, TX. We value in-office collaboration and meaningful interactions, so expect that you will be able to be in the office 3 days per week throughout your Internship. When you are not working on-site, you will be working from your home office. We are only considering candidates within a commutable distance to Frisco, TX, as we are not offering relocation assistance at this time.

About the role:

  • Assist with executing and monitoring vulnerability scans across enterprise, cloud, and endpoint environments

  • Support triage and validation of vulnerability findings to improve accuracy and reduce false positives

  • Help prioritize vulnerabilities using risk-based approaches (CVSS, exploitability, asset criticality, and business impact)

  • Track critical vulnerabilities (e.g., zero-days, actively exploited CVEs)

  • Coordinate with asset owners and engineering teams to drive timely patching or mitigation

  • Monitor remediation progress and escalate risks as needed

  • Track remediation activities and follow up with asset owners to ensure SLA adherence and timely closure

  • Document vulnerability management processes, workflows, and playbooks

  • Maintain knowledge base articles for threat advisories and remediation guidance

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve vulnerability lifecycle efficiency

About you:

  • Must be currently enrolledatanaccreditedcollege oruniversityprogramforagraduatedegree (MS/MA)ORundergraduatedegree(BS/BA/BBA).Undergraduatesmust beenteringtheir junior or senior yearto beconsidered

  • Prefer students currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field

  • Must be able to commit to the full Summer Internship from June 22 to Aug 14, 2026

  • Basic understanding of:

    • vulnerability vs. risk vs. threat

    • Basic understanding of CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability)

    • Cloud fundamentals (AWS, GCP), containers

    • Windows/Linux systems

  • Familiarity with ports, protocols (HTTPs, DNS, TCP/IP)

  • Awareness of common vulnerabilities (OWASP Top10, CVEs, patching concepts)

  • Basic scripting skills(python/Bash) is a plus

  • Exposure to tools like Qualys, Rapid7, Nessus etc

  • Strong sense of urgency

  • Ability to collaborate across teams

  • Solid interpersonal skills; can buildeffective relationships with other team members

  • Thrive in fast-paced environments and open to change in the workplace

  • Strong teamplayer with a positive, professional attitude
