Description of Work
The Business & Operations Manager serves as the Chief Business Officer and administrative leader for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. As a member of the college's leadership team, this position serves as a strategic advisor to the dean, providing leadership that advances the college's mission through sound planning, operational excellence, collaboration, and responsible stewardship of university resources.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Providing strategic leadership for the college's business, administrative, and operational functions, including finance, budgeting, human resources, marketing and communications, undergraduate recruitment, student services, and technology services.
  • Advising college leadership on financial, operational, and organizational matters while supporting strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Supervising and developing professional staff and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on continuous improvement.
  • Establishing effective business practices, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements, and promoting responsible stewardship of university resources.
  • Building collaborative partnerships across the college and university to advance strategic initiatives, improve organizational effectiveness, and represent the college.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field and five (5) years' experience in any combination of accounting, grants/contracts, financial or business management.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of large integrated financial management systems.
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Working knowledge of grants/contracts, accounting, budgeting, personnel and payroll practices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education setting.
  • Experience in supervisory role.
  • Experience with SAP, PeopleSoft, PeopleAdmin, and myRed.
  • Knowledge of Journalism and Mass Communications programs and/or profession.
