Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Program Management department as a Construction Manager. Reporting to the Manager of Construction Services this role has overall responsibility for providing leadership in the performance management of all activities related to the execution of construction work within Transmission & Distribution projects, including planning, cost control, materials management, contract/work force administration, safety/incident prevention, quality, security, and change management. Responsibilities
  • All on site Power System Safety Protection (PSSP) Person in Charge (PIC) duties. Responsible for after erection inspection and offline construction of a project or part of a project
  • Listing all equipment or circuit items including outstanding deficiencies and safety hazards
  • Coordination of all staging and energization sequencing and development of staging plans
  • Ensuring construction work is executed as per Qualus engineering drawing specifications, design standards and contractual requirements
  • Ensuring overall project execution is completed in accordance with the Project Management Plan and to the satisfaction of the Project Manager by acting as the single point of contact between the construction work force and Qualus Engineering
  • Managing the overall Safety Management Plan, the site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Management Plan, Request for Information, Change Notices, Non-Conformance Reports, commissioning and energizing processes, As-Built completions and contract compliance
  • Assisting the Project Manager with scope of work portion of contracts, bid evaluation, land owner concerns, vegetation or access issues, constructability reviews and creating the construction schedule, including identifying outages as required
  • Implementing continuous improvements to positively impact project performance
  • Maintaining Qualus T&D contractual responsibilities
  • Establishing and maintaining Qualus T&D relationships with clients and other 3rd parties
  • Monitoring the construction and commissioning of all projects for schedule changes and tracking and reporting progress on a daily, weekly and monthly basis: identifying any issues that could delay the schedule
  • Providing advice on course of action to maintain the schedule within authority levels or escalating to quickly address
  • Monitoring and auditing construction and materials management documentation to ensure that the facilities are being constructed to meet the quality specifications
  • Managing and replying to RFI's, issuing Site Instructions, NCRs and coordinating energization documentation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the construction, maintenance, controls or commissioning of Substations and/or Power Lines with a strong focus in electrical background
  • Academic qualifications/experience to enable effective interface at the engineering and management level
  • Results oriented with the capacity to successfully manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, audit and investigation skills
  • Demonstrated effective leadership interacting with multiple internal disciplines and external customers in areas of civil, structural and electrical design
  • Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions with the ability to manage to the specification of a contract
  • Excellent and professional communication, interpersonal and team building skills within a diverse work group
  • Ability to work autonomously with frequent travel to remote site locations within an assigned geographical region
  • Experience as a Site Safety Coordinator considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract
  • Available to travel within BC
