Job description

About Evergreen Energy Partners

Evergreen Energy Partners is a virtual full-service energy efficiency firm. We employ experts experienced in advancing energy efficiency initiatives for a wide array of clients. Our team members are in strategic locations across the United States.
We are a supportive team that rewards individual initiative and performance. We have a progressive culture that embraces work-life balance while working in a virtual office environment from your home. This winning combination has resulted in repeated selection among the top companies on Oregon Business Magazine's list of 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon.

Position Description: Senior Program Manager

As a Senior Program Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a portfolio of utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs throughout New England. Serving as the primary day-to-day client contact, you will partner with utility clients, Program Managers, and internal teams to ensure programs consistently achieve contractual objectives, financial targets, customer satisfaction goals, and performance metrics.

This position is responsible for leading high-performing program teams while overseeing program implementation, budgeting, forecasting, staffing, reporting, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement. You will collaborate with utility clients, implementation partners, contractors, and internal subject matter experts to successfully deliver complex programs while identifying opportunities for innovation, operational excellence, and future growth.

We're looking for an experienced energy efficiency professional who understands how utility-sponsored programs operate and can contribute immediately with minimal onboarding. If you enjoy building strong client relationships, developing talented teams, solving complex challenges, and helping shape the future of energy efficiency programs throughout New England, we'd love to hear from you.

Successful Candidates:

  • Bring extensive experience managing utility-sponsored or utility-funded energy efficiency programs, preferably within the New England market.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop Program Managers and cross-functional teams.
  • Build trusted relationships with utility clients, implementation partners, contractors, trade allies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment while successfully balancing multiple clients, contracts, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Are proactive, resourceful problem-solvers who identify opportunities for continuous improvement rather than simply maintaining existing processes.
  • Possess exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Exercise sound judgment, make informed decisions independently, and remain calm under changing priorities.
  • Take ownership of program performance and are committed to delivering exceptional client service and measurable results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for multiple utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs throughout New England.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for utility clients, maintaining strong relationships while ensuring successful contract execution and exceptional client satisfaction.
  • Lead, mentor, supervise, and develop Program Managers and other assigned staff while supporting team growth and professional development.
  • Oversee program budgets, staffing plans, forecasts, resource allocation, financial performance, and contractual deliverables.
  • Monitor program performance, regulatory compliance, reporting requirements, quality assurance activities, and key performance metrics to ensure programs consistently meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Lead recurring client meetings and prepare executive-level presentations, reports, and program updates.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, implementation partners, contractors, subcontractors, and trade allies to ensure seamless program delivery and an exceptional customer experience.
  • Identify operational improvements and implement best practices that enhance program efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall performance.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal development, client presentations, interviews, and transition planning for new contracts.
  • Maintain current knowledge of utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Perform additional duties and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is an experienced utility energy efficiency professional who can immediately provide leadership across a portfolio of complex programs while building trusted client relationships and developing high-performing teams.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs or portfolios simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of utility program implementation, contract management, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and customer engagement.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing professional staff.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage competing priorities, and make sound business decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using CRM, project management, and reporting platforms (such as Salesforce or similar systems) is preferred.
  • Previous experience working successfully in a remote or virtual work environment is preferred.

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience managing utility-sponsored or utility-funded energy efficiency programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with electric and/or gas utilities, implementation contractors, program administrators, or other utility stakeholders throughout New England.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, contracts, or client portfolios with responsibility for budgets, staffing, and operational performance.
  • Experience supervising and developing Program Managers or other professional staff.
  • Experience with commercial, small business, multifamily, residential, market transformation, midstream, or pilot energy efficiency programs.
  • Experience participating in proposal development, business development, client presentations, or contract transitions is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by this position. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Sitting for extended periods at a computer; data entry and proficient typing.
  • Talking on the telephone or video conference calls for extended periods.
  • Speak/hear; provide clear, accurate communication and hear the telephone.

Other Requirements:

  • Drug test - must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Pre-employment background check.
  • A solid internet connection, a dedicated and fully equipped home office for public or client-facing virtual on-screen meetings and a reliable phone.
  • Evergreen will provide a computer (programs for the position included in the computer setup), two monitors, a monitor stand, speakers, a webcam, a docking station, a wireless keyboard and mouse and a surge suppressor.
  • We are a fully remote telecommuting organization. This position offers a significant amount of flexibility in line with meeting responsibilities. Some evening and early morning meetings and events may occasionally be necessary.
  • Required location: Connecticut, Massachusetts or Vermont.

Benefits:

In addition to your competitive salary, medical/dental/vision plan, disability and life insurance, and 401(k), we'll provide:

  • Generous paid time off (PTO) so you can recharge and enjoy life, plus $500 provided annually when you take a week-long vacation.
  • 401(k) company contributions to help build your nest egg.
  • Discretionary bonuses based on performance because your work deserves to be rewarded.
