Under the direction of the Student & Family Programs Coordinator, the Outreach Program Facilitator is responsible for independently presenting the museum's off-site school programs for elementary-aged students throghout the Denver Metro Area. Facilitators lead highly interactive 90-minute classroom programs using established curriculum that combines history, geography, and economics with hands-on learning. This position is ideal for individuals interested in museum education, public history, interpretation, classroom teaching, or youth programming and who are looking to build experience in public speaking, classroom facilitation, and classroom management.
Successful facilitators are enthusiastic, dependable, organized, and enjoy working with elementary-aged children. After completing training, facilitators work independently. Facilitators receive their teaching schedule approximately one month in advance, travel directly to assigned schools, and represent the museum while leading outreach programs.
Facilitators generally work two to four days a week, between 15-25 hours per week during school hours (approximately 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). Programs are scheduled Tuesday through Friday. Schedules vary daily based on school bookings
This position follows the school calendar, with most holidays and school breaks off. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the Denver Metro Area are required. Mileage is reimbursed according to museum policy.
Position duration is October through May for the 2026-2027 school year. Phone interviews will take place September 1-4. In-person interviews will take place September 9-11.
The anticipated start date is October 1, 2026. JOB SUMMARY Independently leads interactive 90-minute outreach programs: Building Colorado Communities, Building Colorado Cities and Ute Knowledge: STEM Kit programs in elementary school classrooms to groups of up to 30 students at a time. May instruct two to four classrooms per day at an individual school.
Daily shifts vary, typically lasting four to seven hours. Facilitates classroom discussions, educational games, and hand-on activities while maintaining a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment. Adapts presentation style and classroom management strategies to meet the needs of each classroom while maintaining the quality of established lesson plans.
Utilizes positive classroom management strategies to maintain high expectations and student engagement. Maintains outreach program materials and teaching supplies as assigned at start employment. Ensures supplies are organized and inventoried regularly.
Utilizes classroom technologies such as projection systems, teacher computers, Prezi presentation software, Google Suite, and Google Calendar for scheduling. Participates in required training, coaching sessions, staff meetings, and completes all required program evaluations in a timely manner. Use of personal vehicle to drive to and from each assigned program destination daily.
Other duties as assigned. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must be able to make independent decisions with minimal supervision. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to utilize computer or laptop and Smart board to facilitate programming. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver's license with good driving record and proof of insurance.
