Position Summary
The Program Director, Nursing is a 12-month, campus-based, faculty academic program administrator (APA) position with responsibility for providing academic and operational leadership, management, and coordination for the undergraduate Entry-Into-Practice (EIP) degree program and associated faculty and budget in accordance with Stevenson University and the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) policies and procedures. The Program Director serves as a member of the Nursing Unit Leadership Team and supports ongoing accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and compliance with state requirements (Maryland Board of Nursing, MBON) by fostering a culture of assessment; continuous quality improvement; and adherence to the MBON and CCNE Standards for data collection, analysis, and reporting. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, collaborating to support student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts; maintaining and evaluating updated curriculum that meets accreditation standards and supports NCLEX success; general program assessment and engagement in the life of the university. The Program Director also fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member, as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and in the Full-Time Faculty Job Description approved by the SNHP faculty. The teaching load requirement is 6-9 contact hours per academic year in the EIP Nursing program. Rank and title are determined at the time of hire and will be commensurate with education and experience. The Program Director works as a member of the Nursing Unit team to support overall operations and initiatives as assigned.
Education/Experience
Doctorate in Nursing or related field and a Master's degree in Nursing are required. College level teaching experience, clinical nursing experience within the past four years, and at least two years of experience as an administrator are preferred. CPR certification is required and CNE or certification in area of clinical practice preferred. Must be a Registered Nurse and Maryland Board of Nursing certified or eligible.

Physical Requirements

Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time, the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time, the ability to travel between campuses and clinical sites, and additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends.
Essential Functions
Administrative Activity
- Serve as the Academic Program Administrator (APA) for the CCNE-accredited EIP nursing program, and serve as an active and contributing member of the Nursing Unit Leadership Team and the SNHP Leadership Team.
- Represent the EIP Nursing Program to students, parents, professional organizations, external partners, and other relevant constituencies.
- Serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and others regarding questions, complaints, matters, and issues pertaining to the EIP Nursing Program.
- Perform academic administrative responsibilities to include scheduling classes; supporting student recruiting, advising, and retention; regularly assessing program quality and effectiveness and facilitating the development and implementation of a competency-based program curriculum in collaboration with nursing unit and program faculty and staff and other relevant campus offices as needed; collaborating with campus constituencies to ensure operational alignment, shared purpose, and achievement of shared goals; developing articulation agreements and partnerships; actively engaging in collaborative pursuits and forging professional relationships with external and internal constituencies to support partnerships and opportunities; and managing the program's budget.
- Perform personnel-related responsibilities to include hiring, onboarding, supervising, managing, mentoring, and evaluating the performance of program faculty according to established university guidelines and timetables.
- As a member of the leadership team and with the Chief Nurse Administrator, share responsibility for ensuring continued nursing program accreditation by CCNE and compliance with Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) regulations and requirements, including required reporting as determined by SNHP processes
- Manage the department's operating budget in consultation with the Chief Nurse Administrator and the Dean, SNHP.
- Participate in new student recruitment initiatives, including, but not limited to, participating in university open houses and receptions for accepted students; contacting campus visitors and open house attendees; ensuring the announcement of program news and student activities and achievements via internal and external venues; updating and revising recruiting materials; and talking with prospective students and parents, as requested.
- Collaborate with relevant program staff to support the process of making progression decisions and notifying students, advisors, and relevant campus offices regarding program progression.
- Hold regular program meetings throughout the academic year.
- Attend and participate in all School of Nursing and Health Professions faculty/staff, BSNHP Leadership Team, Nursing Unit Leadership Team, and Nursing Unit Working Group meetings.
- Support strategic and annual initiatives as assigned.
- Engage in and support grant-writing and other scholarly pursuits in support of academic programs.
- Maintain relationships with the community of interest partners.
- Serve as the Stevenson University representative on external advisory boards as requested.
- In consultation with relevant faculty and staff, annually review and revise the college catalog and nursing student guide, as requested.
Instructional Activity
- Engage in instructional activity totaling 6-9 contact hours per academic year in the EIP Nursing program.
- Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee (FMEC), and supervisor evaluations.
- Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, time spent in classroom, laboratory, or clinical, and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing and regularly updating teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; preparing assignments, grading students' work, and providing feedback to students in a timely manner. Note that all Stevenson University courses require faculty to use the Blackboard Course Management System.
- Other responsibilities include writing and/or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails; grading course work in a timely fashion; submitting mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis.
- Provide feedback to students via assignments, exams, and other forms of learning assessment in a timely manner.
- Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week).
- Evaluate, update, and revise courses in an interval that ensures continuous alignment with regulatory and accreditation requirements and supports optimal student outcomes.
- Participate in the assessment activities of the Program, Nursing Unit, School, and University.
- Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as in the policy manuals.
Scholarly Activity
- Maintain independent pursuits-including scholarly or applied projects-to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Attend professional conferences, workshops, or meetings to maintain currency in nursing leadership and/or an area of academic interest.
- Pursue internal and external funding to support scholarly activity.
Service Activity
- Offer quality advising services to students, including providing recommendations and resources to students on academic, co-curricular, career, and/or graduate school matters.
- Serve on at least one Nursing Unit Standard Working Group.
- Program service includes contributing to and participating in student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; contributing to and participating in ongoing departmental activities, such as curriculum development and assessment; attending departmental/program/unit meetings; contributing to and participating in the planning and coordination of nursing events; and establishing professional relationships to generate clinical placement opportunities for nursing students.
- University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School, and Departmental committees.
- Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises and the nursing pinning ceremony.
- Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff, and relevant academic Department/Nursing Unit/School meetings.
- Engage and participate in the life and work of the Nursing Unit, School of Nursing and Health Professions, and Stevenson University.
- Participate in Department, School, and University assessment activities, including, but not limited to, annual assessment of courses and periodic assessments of programs for University and/or accreditation purposes.
- Mentor and advise new faculty, including leading New Nursing Faculty Orientation in collaboration with the Associate Dean & Chief Nurse Administrator.
- Serve on Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee(s) of all EIP full-time faculty.
