Job description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for an individual who would like to apply their experiences to fill our Community Center Program Aide position. This position assists with after school and day camp programs. Must maintain and exhibit willingness to assist in carrying out The Salvation Army mission. Enjoy working with children, be a good tutor and perform some cleaning duties as needed in program areas.

This is a part-time position, 24 hours a week, with a starting pay of $15.00 per hour.

The corps is located at 1707 W Chestnut Expy, Springfield, Missouri.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise members and visitors during activities in the community center.
  • Enforce rules as necessary.
  • Supervise and participate in all facets of these programs, e.g., recreation, snacks, crafts, field trips, etc.
  • When necessary, mediate disputes among participants, being sensitive to needs of all parties.
  • Tutor children on their homework.
  • Clean eating, work and play areas before and after activities.
  • Assist in other youth activities as needed.
  • Answer phone and take/forward messages as necessary.
  • Help plan, schedule, and conduct the activities of these programs.
  • Maintain and store all supplies and equipment.
  • Train members and visitors in the care and use of games and equipment.
  • Record and submit daily statistical reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.

Education and Experience

  • Previous work with youth activities is desirable.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to read and write well. Requires basic verbal communications with children and other employees.
  • Valid drivers' license and pass TSA MVR is a plus. Must be certified by American Red Cross (ARC) in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
