What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Professional Scout, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional Scout, you need a deep understanding of talent evaluation, sports analytics, and the specific sport’s rules and strategies, often supported by prior playing or coaching experience. Familiarity with video analysis software, scouting databases, and performance tracking tools is essential. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help scouts build relationships with athletes and report findings clearly. These skills ensure accurate identification of potential talent, supporting team success and strategic player acquisitions.

How does a professional scout typically collaborate with coaches and management when evaluating potential talent?

Professional scouts work closely with coaches and team management by providing detailed reports and assessments on athletes' skills, potential, and fit within the team's strategic needs. They often attend games, practices, and combines, then share their findings through written evaluations and in-person meetings. Regular communication ensures that the scouting insights align with the team's current roster needs and long-term goals. This collaboration is key to making informed recruitment decisions and building a competitive team.

What are professional scouts?

Professional scouts are experts who evaluate athletes' skills, performance, and potential for sports teams or organizations. They attend games, analyze players, and provide detailed reports to help teams make informed decisions about drafting, signing, or trading athletes. Their work is crucial in discovering new talent and building competitive teams across various sports. Professional scouts often travel extensively and develop deep knowledge of the sport they specialize in. They may work for professional, collegiate, or amateur organizations.

Job description

What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

We are looking for a Vice President of Production Quality to build, scale, and lead the plant quality function at Scout Motors. This role is foundational to our success and requires an experienced automotive quality leader who has stood up production quality systems in a high-growth OEM environment, led through launches, and inspired large teams-both professional and hourly-to deliver excellence every day. This is a rare opportunity to define the quality culture, strategy, and systems of a new OEM-while honoring Scout's heritage and living our values.

As VP, Production Quality, you will own the end-to-end production quality vision and execution for Scout Motors' South Carolina manufacturing operations. You will:

 Lead with Respect

  • Build, scale and lead a high-performing, inclusive Production Quality organization across plant quality, supplier quality, warranty, and customer experience.
  • Inspire and develop leaders at all levels-professional and hourly-creating clear accountability, psychological safety, and pride in craftsmanship.

Move with Intent

  • Define and execute the Production Quality strategy, aligned to Scout Motors' business objectives and North American market expectations.
  • Establish robust quality governance, KPIs, and decision-making forums that drive clarity, speed, and results.

Figure It Out

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve production quality processes within the Scout Motors Business Management System (BMS).
  • Lead structured problem-solving initiatives that reduce direct run rate issues, scrap, rework, and warranty risk-especially through launch and ramp-up.

Go Together

  • Partner deeply with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Purchasing to embed quality into design, industrialization, supplier readiness, and series production
  • Align cross-functional teams around shared objectives and a single definition of "right the first time."

Step Up

  • Own supplier quality performance across a complex, multi-tier supply chain-driving sustainable corrective actions and holding partners accountable.
  • Serve as the Voice of the Customer, overseeing vehicle audits, warranty data, and customer feedback loops.

Make It Matter

  • Balance quality, cost, delivery, and risk with strong strategic, analytical, and financial judgment.

Enjoy It

  • Build something meaningful, establishing the quality foundation for a company that people believe in, are proud to work for, and love to drive.

Scope & Impact

  • Endtoend responsibility for production quality at the Scout Motors South Carolina manufacturing facility
  • Leadership of a rapidly growing Production Quality organization
  • Direct influence on product integrity, production continuity, customer satisfaction, and brand reputation

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role may be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 4-5 days attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
  • Travel: Domestic and international travel required, approximately 20 % of the time. Valid driver's license required. Passport required
What you'll bring

We expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You'll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You'll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring:

  • 15 years of experience in automotive production quality, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership role in an OEM; Expertise in new product launches
  • Bachelor degree is required, Master degree is preferred.
  • Deep expertise in setting up Production Quality processes as part of the Scout Business Management System (BMS)
  • Strong background in manufacturing quality, warranty management, and customer feedback integration
  • Advanced capability in supplier quality management across global, multitier supply networks
  • Proven ability to lead crossfunctional organizations at senior executive level
  • Track record of building and scaling large quality organizations
  • Knowledge in data engineering and data analytics as well as in implementation of digital solutions to facilitate a Data Driven Quality approach.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and financial acumen, balancing quality, cost, delivery, and risk
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills
  • Current knowledge of automotive quality trends, technologies, and bestinclass practices
