Job description

As the Real Estate Paralegal, you will work with the Legal, Land, and Development Teams to support land acquisition and title efforts. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in real property transactions including leases, easements, and land purchases, co-tenancy and shared use agreements, title review and curative efforts, and title policies and surveys. You will deploy your outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail to assist Scout's broader legal team in all aspects of project development and land control to help the company's ambitious growth targets. The Real Estate Paralegal will report to the Senior Counsel.
The Real Estate Paralegal will have strong expertise in land and title matters to provide the following services:
  • Create, file, and maintain documents.
  • Perform real estate due diligence for land acquisition, both for Scout projects and potential land or project acquisitions from other renewable energy companies.
  • Support real estate transactions, including lease review and negotiation, title review, and survey review.
  • Utilize the broad suite of Scout's form agreements to draft and negotiate leases and ancillary transaction documents such as SNDAs, estoppels, notices, assignments, and amendments.
  • Maintain real estate templates and support the development teams in their use.
  • Review title documents, site plans and ALTA surveys for encumbrances and determine if curative action is required; prepare title and survey comment/revision correspondence to title companies and surveyors; support the drafting and negotiation of title curative documents.
  • Coordinate, track, and report on title review, title curative work, and survey work.
  • Aid in the preparation and execution of closing documentation for various complex renewable energy transactions involving multi-parcel real estate interests.
  • Additional legal support as needed, including assistance with special projects as directed by the General Counsel and other Scout attorneys and/or assistance with various legal requests from other internal client groups.

You will also play an important role in Scout's continued growth and development as a company. We will ask you to consistently review and implement improvements to Scout's legal process management, including the following:
  • Suggest changes to Scout form documents.
  • Create and implement efficient and scalable processes and procedures to support land acquisition efforts of the company.
  • Support the development, refinement, and implementation of policies and procedures for review of title, title curatives, and internal trainings on real estate topics.
  • Support the development of a document retention and tracking program.

Furthermore, you will be exposed to the energy industry and the complicated regulatory ecosystem within which it resides.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and Paralegal Certificate from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of experience as a paralegal in an in-house legal department or law firm with a heavy focus on real estate contracts (e.g. leases, options to purchase, easements, title commitments and requirements, surveys).
  • Interest in the renewable energy industry; prior experience in the industry is preferred but not required.
  • Tech savvy - ability to learn and operate at a high level in a variety of software applications.
  • Experience drafting documents (e.g., notices, amendments, assignments, consents, waivers, etc.).
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Timeline and Location
This full-time (40-hour-per-week) position will begin in Q2 2026.
Our ideal candidate will be able to commute to our Boulder office at least three times per week.

Benefits
Target base salary: $80,000-$105,000. Negotiable for the right candidate.
