Job description


Primary purpose:
Provide electrical engineering subject matter expertise to support operation and maintenance of natural gas, crude oil, CO2, and water pipelines and facilities.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Orchestrate and oversee the completion of power system studies and other electrical safety efforts including but not limited to electrical maintenance and safety training
  • Orchestrate and oversee the completion of lightning mitigation installations
  • Coordinate electrical grounding studies and assist with the implementation of recommended changes
  • Support efforts to ensure consistent electrical practices across company assets
  • Develop and/or update company electrical standards including material specifications, standard operating procedures, best practices, major design installations, and operator qualifications
  • Review electrical equipment vendor drawings and specifications
  • Ensure that electrical field inspections, installation, measurement, and maintenance are consistent with company and industry standards
  • Specify key electrical equipment such as medium and low voltage switchgear and motor control centers, transformers, VFD's, Soft Starts, UPS and solar systems, DC systems, protective relay protection schemes, etc.
  • Provide electrical engineering subject matter expertise regarding new project design and equipment specification
  • Ensure facility electrical drawings are accurate and up-to-date
  • Interact internally and externally with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct
  • Speak, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and careful listening
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed
  • Be available by phone during non-traditional hours

Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Specific Knowledge:
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • National Fire Protection Association code (NFPA)
    • NFPA 70 - National Electrical Code
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards (IEEE)
    • NESC - National Electrical Safety Code

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Intermediate proficiency with data entry / survey forms and other methods of data collection
  • Fundamental knowledge in the design of electrical systems for large industrial facilities
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, including flow charts, Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs), single line diagrams, electrical equipment schematics, MCC/SWGR elevations, and PDC layouts
  • Experience in power system studies including the use of device coordination, short circuit, arc flash, and other related studies as necessary (ETAP, SKM, etc.).
  • Effective communication abilities with engineering and non-engineering staff
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
  • Ability to self-start and prioritize concurrent tasks and efforts

Working Conditions:
  • Some overnight travel to engineering contractors, equipment providers, construction sites, and operations facilities may be required.
  • Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • NFPA 70E - Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • NFPA 70B - Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance
  • Experience with hydrogen, syngas, ammonia, or GTL processing facilities
  • Experience in AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Experience in programming protection relays (Schweitzer-SEL,GE-Multilin, Basler, etc.)
  • Specific knowledge related to the electrical/mechanical design of rotating equipment including engines, turbines, pumps, and electric motor drives.
  • Knowledge related to power generation and transmission
  • Knowledge related to electrical equipment maintenance tasks and procedures

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $130,000-$160,000/yr
